Back when I used to drink, I'd get hammered on OB beer when I was stationed overseas in Korea. I'd be sick for a day-and-a-half afterwards.

Spaten makes a nice blond beer (pilsner?)

Taste is very subjective... take Guinness for example... people either love or hate it.

I could drink a gallon of Guinness as long as it is on tap, I think some people just can't get over the color. I don't think the alcohol content is higher than regular beer and I have had much stronger tasting beer.

The Anacapa brewery in Ventura makes some nice beers.

You crazy.
Spaten's Optimator is the Chuck Norris of German double bocks. Maybe you are just a girly-man?
Seriously, maybe you had a bad one? Or maybe you didn't pour it in a glass? Or maybe you just don't like double bocks. I don't know, but Spaten doesn't make "undrinkable" beer. I guess if you are used to sex-in-a-canoe beer, it could be a bit of a shock to the palette. Oh, and at $14 for a 12-pack at the local beverage store, it's not uber-fancy either. So, I don't know who you would be impressing.

Nice find!
As I have probably mentioned in previous beer threads, that is the Holy Grail of Belgian beers IMO. I suppose you could go to the Westvletern Abby in person and get the true non-commercial, label-less, Monastic-brewed (Trappist) version. Although St. Bernardus (formerly St. Sixtus) and the Westvleteren recipes are the same. It is just that it can't be called Trappist if it's brewed outside the Monastery walls.

They have another brew called "Grottenbier" that is great as well.

Cheers.

I was told to find this:

It supposedly eclipses the regular stuff.

Thanks for the info Eric I am going to look for that Grottenbier.

Ales. IPA's are good because they tend to have stronger hops. Just had a killer IPA from California but it's name slips my mind - I'll make a trip to the store tommorow because thinking about it makes me want one. Hope they are still around. Drinking a great English ale right now call HobGoblin. Very good.
