Cannot reply to Craigslist ads, any ideas?

For some reason my e-mail errors out when I try to respond to Craigslist ads. I am using the standard Windows e-mail program that came with my new Dell. I can use my Yahoo account and it goes through fine. I assume it's some kind of security setting. This is the error message I get:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Ad for thingy for sale', Account: 'mail.egl.net', Server: 'mail.egl.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Any ideas? Thanks.

Sounds like the Craigslist mail server is jacked.

It works on my other computer fine and through Yahoo mail. It's been this way for days.

Oh, I thought you meant other emails went through fine

Can you send other emails using Windows mail?

Well I thought it was but I just ran a test and I guess not. I don't generally e-mail from home.

So I guess it's a problem with all my outgoing mail.

Does your SMTP server require authentication?

I do not know.

Who is your ISP?

lendaddy 11-23-2008 08:00 AM

eaglenet, it's local. My searches have found that this is a common problem and likely antivirus related.

See if this helps: http://www.egl.net/support/email.shtml

OK, I found it! The port was incorrectly set to "25" and it needed to be "587". It appears all is well.

Thanks,.
