Time for some of you to go cold turkey....

Two men whose company sold a device known as the Whizzinator that helped men cheat on drug tests have pleaded guilty in federal court in Pittsburgh. George Wills and Robert Catalano each pleaded guilty Monday to two conspiracy counts. They owned the California-based Internet company Puck Technology.

The Whizzinator is a prosthetic penis that comes with a heating element and fake urine. U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan's office says the goal of it and another device called Number 1 was to help people pass drug tests.

The devices were sold from 2005 to 2008. The California men are scheduled to be sentenced in February and face up to eight years in prison, a half-million-dollar fine or both.

Someone from the NFL, or track and field was actually had one of those in his possession when he was arrested for some other offense. Can't remember who it was ....

This was a piss poor business idea :p.

Oh Haha 11-24-2008 04:02 PM

So should the radar detector companies be held responsible as well?

I'm just sayin'.

Conspiracy? What a load of crap. Our tax dollars at work.

Gotta love google 'arrest+whizzinator+athlete='

The NFL was considering whether to penalize Minnesota Vikings running back Onterrio Smith after it was revealed he was caught at the Twin Cities airport with an elaborate contraption designed to beat drug tests.

A search of a bag Smith was carrying April 21 turned up several vials of dried urine and a device called "The Original Whizzinator," which includes a fake penis, bladder and athletic supporter. An NFL spokesman said using the device during a drug test would be a violation of league drug policies, but it wasn't clear whether there were penalties for possessing one outside of a testing situation.

Where was the fraud? Does the device not work? Was is marketed as a novelty item or did it claim to really work?

I will pre-empt the inevitable statement:

"This thread is useless without pictures"

To moderator: This is a facsimile, not the real thing. We are discussing science and drug testing.

The most common use of these was not for big name sports athletes. It was for commercial truck drivers to pass urine tests.

Drivers of large commercial trucks are required by the DOT to pass a five panel drug test. They are tested for marijuana, meth, phencylidine, opiates, and cocaine. The thresholds are pretty high - there is no such thing as a "poppy seed positive". The tests are split specimen and cover specific protocol.

I worked ten years in the enforcement community. There are drivers out there who have used these with great success for years...

There is a big difference between the guy with the radar detector who is speeding and the guy with the whizzinator who is driving the 80,000 pound truck beside your family on the freeway while under the influence of a controlled substance. :(
