Wil Ferch - Your E-mail No Worky, Here is Your Data...

Wil,
I tried several times to send you this and nothing worked. I hope you read OT.

I took a look at the tech data from each of the products you sent over and have made a comparison. If I had a choice I would not use either of them (Mobil or Kluber) but that’s only because I know of a better product for you (Certified Labs). Your major concern is low temp mobility while other characteristics are also important. I sum it up pretty well in a table I built for you. I hope this helps.

I can put you in touch with someone to get you better grease if you would like. Let me know.

Lubey...I've read the endless accounts on the tech thread about engine oils. Can I ask what your straight forward recommendation is for older (1987) Pcars? 120K miles, fresh top end....doesn't smoke or use much oil (like 1/2 qt every 3500 miles). Been using Rotella.

TIA.

PS: Free bump for Wil.

That's a good question and prolly filled with opinions from all angles. I'm a fan of synthetics to a point. I think that they have there place as do mineral based oils. The real question is what is it that a engine of that age and application is going to require?

I don't think they require a full synthetic unless you track once a month. That means that the great product that Amsoil, Royal Purple, Redline and even Brad Penns are really over kill.

If I didn't have access to our engine oils I would prolly buy Mobil 1 (for water cooled) or Castrol GTX (for oil cooled).

So, LM...you don't subscribe to the belief that synthetics in older motors results in more leaks?

And another bump for Wil

Hi:
Lubemaster...thanks..I just "chanced" upon this. If you re-read my email address again...slowly..it should work. People often use two "LL"'s in my name. I spelled-out my email address for obvious reasons..... ferch dot wil at gmail dot com ... works every time....hmmm?

Seeing as we have lubby's attention...

Is it true that water-base lube is preferred in the bedroom as opposed to petroleum base?

Lubemaster..if you cut-n-paste it as I phonetically "spelled" it out...then obviously it won't work. You didn't actually mean that...did you ? I do receive emails at that acount when re-typed the "right" ( and not phonetic) way.....
