Best Wall Mount Bracket fot TV
We've had a cable thread, TV threads ... and now:
what is the best bracket to mount a big TV on the wall? I saw some in Best Buy yesterday, but they were plastic and the box said not for TV's larger than 40". This is gonna be a 46" or larger TV. LCD if that matters. |

Figure the TV will be cantilevered out from the wall with significant bending forces. If all the joints don't have close tolerances it'll be difficult to keep the TV level or at your preferred angle. In other words: Don't buy the cheap one.

My folks have a 58" mounted with an Omnimount mount. It is solid. K2 Mounts are supposed to be very good as well.
We picked up a cheap (metal) mount on overstock.com for our LCD (it is only 37") and it works fine, but I do not need much articulation. I think either Omnimount or K2 will fit the bill.

I spec'd a lot of Omnimount and Ergotron brand mounts when I was designing studios/studio furniture for the broadcast industry. They've both been around for a long time.

They are the biggest rip-off since Monster Cable.
I made my own, a U-shaped piece bolted to the back of the TV, a U-shaped pieced boltde to the wall. Drop the TV's inverted U into the wall's upright U and voila!. Space the U bracket from the wall to change the viewing angle. IIRC the TV used M4 SHCS's.

Debatable. If you want to tilt and pivot, okay, agreed.
I don't need a bracket to do either for me. I like my $5 bracket. It leaves $40 for car parts.

I was thinking of the linkage type that extends from the wall. For just a plain wall mount their isn't much stress.

Yep. As expensive as these plasmas are, you would think they would include a roll of duct tape and a little bailing wire.

I just mounted a 60" plasma. I used a peerless mount. Great quality. About 1/3 the cost of others.
