My Dad's Head--Stay out of the sun. (Graphic Pic)

My dad (70) worshipped the sun for a long time. It caught up with him. 30 biopsies, 30 positives for basal cell. After an extensive Mohs surgery, he got a skin graft from a donor. The graft was done on Monday. He starts radiation in a while in case it made it to his skull. Put sunscreen on.

Sorry to hear about this, hope he gets good results from the radiation and has a full recovery.

Hoping for great results here...and guys? No more laughing at those wearing long pants, long sleeved shirts and wide brimmed straw hats on track days, right?

Since I had my eyes done, I have been wearing staw hats (per docs orders to protect my eyes) but I still try & work on my tan

Give your dad our positive thoughts!!!

Just had my 89 and 88 year old dad & mom, married 68 years, in for T-giving dinner. Good luck to your dad.

Nothing but solid material hats and sunscreen for me for the last 20 years after a "minor" scare.

Wow. Thats quite a graft. Modern medicine, not a bad thing. Hope he recovers swiftly. Has he approved having his pic on this site?

Yeah, that is a HIPAA violation for sure

That is an excellent argument in favor of a hat, hope he does okay, tell him don't bump his head

Wow, I always wear long pants and long shirts and everyone laughs at my whiter than sour cream tan, and the fact that my "sock" tan lines are on my wrists and neck. When people ask about how I can wear pants when it is so hot I mention the Bedouin nomads in the deserts have been doing it for hundreds of years, they might be on to something.

Yeah, not to hijack, but here, the mostly Hispanic landscapers wear pants and sleeves.

Back to the thread topic...

Hope your dads recovery is speedy, complete, and as easy as can be expected. I shave my head and when I did I bought a couple of hats for when I'm outside.

I wish him a full and speedy recovery! Was that a result of melanoma? Or was it the large number of basil cells in one area?

Luckily it was all basal cell. Thanks for the kind words. It'll be interesting to watch it heal.

Man, I hope he does well in the recovery. Thanks for the wake up call. I spend my whole life out in the sun and have been lax about wearing a hat... no more!

Me too with being out in the sun all the time without protection. Live on a lake, sail, work outside all day. One of my favorite spring rituals is tilling my big garden with just a bathing suit on. I am making a promise to stop that behavior. Thanks for the reminder and best of luck for a full recovery to your dad.
