Does Illinois Know Something the Rest of the Country Doesn't?

Emphasis mine:

Mirroring a nationwide trend, retail sales of firearms in Illinois skyrocketed in the weeks since Election Day. Whereas many states saw gun sales increases in the neighborhood of 10-20%, Illinois gun owners outpaced their November 2007 gun purchases by a full 38%.

According to figures compiled by the Illinois State Police, 24,076 background checks were conducted in November 2008 -- a considerable plus-up from the 17,363 conducted in November 2007 and the 17,249 conducted in November 2006. Illinois gun dealers report that sales have remained brisk throughout Thanksgiving weekend with many customers acquiring several firearms at a time along with sizeable quantities of ammunition.

Can I get this moved to PARF? That's where I intended to post this.

Stupid fat fingers...

Well as you probably know the price of ammo is probably going up again, my friend was grousing that he can't even get case prices anymore so that probably contributes. What I find amusing is that we are such a firm democrat state.

That explains why my FOID card is taking so long. :)

Only north of 80 and east of 39. I can count on one hand the number of households on my street I don't know for certain if they own guns.

I got my FOID card after Katrina. It took three weeks. I hope you get it in time to use it. My collection is adequate but there are still two or three more things I'd like to pick up...

You city folks.

Several firearms, I know the Shawnee National Forest like the back of my hand, a Jeep, and a shovel.

Any questions?

I'm buying guns/ammo as fast as my wallet will allow...

I just bought another 300 rounds today as a matter of fact. Hell, I'm going to just keep buying it /hoarding it until it's either so expensive I can't afford it anymore or it's outlawed. I figure my rate of return reselling any portion of it I eventually decide to part with will WAY outperform the stock market at this point...

Just got $60 from auction comissions, thinking of loading up on 22 wmr and some 22lr at wally world... not that that will go far...

cstreit 12-03-2008 07:13 PM

Well I doubt they can get away with a FULL ban that quick...

Porsche-O-Phile 12-04-2008 01:32 AM

I wouldn't put it past them...

That Barry will target you first?:D

Those of us North of 80 and East of 39 know at least a few things:

"No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people"
- H.L. Menken -

"There's a sucker born every minute"
- P.T. Barnum (though he denied it) -

Hoarding guns because they'll be outlawed? I've got a couple of nice bridges to show you....

That's like people stocking up on liquor because Mitt Romney won the presidency. It takes decades to run through an amendment, and the Supreme Court and the NRA aren't going anywhere.

I've been around guns since I was young and have no problem with them. Buy more if you want them, but if you are doing so only because you think they are going to be taken away, please think a little harder about how, exactly, that could possibly occur....

Spend your money of Porsche parts!

It wouldn't take an amendment--just like the war on drugs.

OSHA has already tried to reclassify ammunition as an "explosive". A move that would require anyone who possessed such a thing to be licensed, them to be shipped with MSDS's--effectively preventing most of the public from owning ammunition. And it would take just one Supreme Court nomination to make it stick.

It's government - the nature of that beast is more power, more paperwork. And who knows in the 22nd Century what might happen?

But in an obviously dangerous world (think what armed Indian police might have done last week), there are enough big-city lawyers who grew up in Montana or Northern Wisconsin to keep our right to bear arms mostly intact for our lifetimes. And there are always ways around the laws. ;)

Heck, if you get right down to it, even the ACLU might be on the side of the 2nd amendment if it came to that......

It is too deep in us, in our history. We have liquor, we have guns, we have a free press. The restrictions on all of these hamper and slow change down, but that is actually a conservative idea that leads to increased stability.

Worst case legally is that the 2nd Amendment is viewed with the weird comma placement making a difference, and you need to be in the state militia to bear arms - I'd guess some "red" state would set up a mail order "militia" just for the dollars it would bring in, and we'd all be armed again within the month!

We're obviously not the only ones thinking this is "for real" and potentially "for keeps"...

This just showed up in my inbox this morning. And yesterday I was at a local shop buying some more ammo and was told by the guy working the counter that they literally can't keep .308 on the shelf right now, same with a few other calibers.
