Actually, that's what I meant! Fast Food Nation is a good read though. Movie... not so much.

If you abuse it anything can be bad for you.

I think fast food is just another thing people like to complain about. It seems to be popular with some to complain about other peoples choices.

I eat it about five days a week for at least 2 meals and in excellent shape.

I always knew Wendy's wasn't good for me, but I didn't think it was really bad, either. I usually get the 1/4lb single without cheese. I figured the mayo and box of fries were the worst bits.

Damn, just looked up the single combo on Wendy's site. 1050 calories and 40 grams of fat.

Thing is most sit-down restaurants probably aren't much better. I dig Americanized Chinese food, but it must be loaded with MSG, sodium, and other nasties in high amounts. I'm not interested in eliminating the spices and bad stuff, but it'd be nice to limit it.

Don't get In-N-Out, and El Pollo Loco east of the Mississippi.

I'm 33 and realize I gotta watch what I eat. I'm in shape, but I still need to take care of the junk inside.

Souk, my mom is Vietnamese. Somehow, my brother and I get dragged into the temple's projects. I wouldn't mind if we weren't already so busy. Nevertheless, I may start eating lunch with the monks despite not being a big fan of strictly vegetarian meals. jurgen

Peppy, do you think you could skip it for a month or two and come back? I wonder if your body would react the same as mine. I usually have an iron stomach, and Wendy's food quality has been consistent, so I am a bit surprised.

jurgen, I think part of that heavy bloated feeling that you are describing has to do with the 0 trans fat oils that restaurants have gone to. Some of the oils have a higher quantity of thbq.

In my defense I do eat as sensible as one can in a fast food restaurant. I eat a lot of chicken. I do have a problem with the preservative that is used on some produce, If I eat that stuff I could crap through a screen door.

svandamme 12-05-2008 06:07 AM

Ok , i don't get it
you go for fast food after going to a local buddhist temple?

Nothing like a little junk food to replenish the body after wholesome meditation, or what??

Rick Lee 12-05-2008 06:37 AM

I went to a Buddhist temple in Chengdu a few years ago that had a restaurant that specialized in vegetarian dishes that taste like meat. It was amazing how much like meat it tasted, yet was all vegetarian. I'll probably take my folks there next month.

Dottore 12-05-2008 06:43 AM

Yes. It's bad.

scottmandue 12-05-2008 06:49 AM

I find if I smoke enough crack I have no desire for fast food.

turbo6bar 12-05-2008 06:55 AM

peppy, no trans fat. I didn't think about that. Good point.

svan, I am non-denomination. I only meditate during exercise and workouts. In times past, the monks would buy regular food (with meat), but we had to eat outside the temple. They respect the fact we eat meat. We give them hard work and quality craftsmanship, in return.

Rick Lee, some of the meat substitutes are awful. Some are okay. I'd just as well eat only vegetables and fore go the tofu. I don't anticipate ever acquiring the taste for tofu. jurgen

After a night of wild bong hits, it's the best thing on earth.

So I've been told.

Just finished a combo #2 with coffee instead of coke. I feel OK, but I'll update as the day progresses.

turbo6bar, you a DJ? Noticed the Technics avatar.

1) Fast food is ok once in a while. All about moderation.

2) Might want to listen to what the monks have to say. It can't hurt.

Cool. My pops does a lot of work for the local temple...I've spent time at the temples, shaved head and all :)

Fine a good Thai or Viet restaurant in your area ... and get to be a regular. That's one way to avoid bad food...or minimize the chances of bad food.
