Arizona drivers...new law

Heads up, a new law goes into effect regarding your license plate. As if they weren't easy enough to distinguish with the cactus and all, you can now get a $150.00 fine if *any* part of the name "ARIZONA" is covered up.

There's another one coming about taking vehicles off of paved roads, something about a special plate required, even if it's a street-legal bike, quad or SUV.

Texas had the same law WRT covering up the word texas. On the vast majority of stops the po-po would collect the extra fine because of a license plate frame on the vehicle. Even the smallest covering of the word was enough to bring down the long arm of the revenue generator. It was disputed (the law) and has now been rewritten to stop the foolishness. I took all frames from each car as a precaution.

what BLOWS me away about Texas is that the Guberment feels that it's subjects are REALLY stupid.

all of the trucks in Texas have plates written with "truck" on them. Like you couldn't look at the 4 wheeled vehicle with a cab and a bed and not figure it out! wtf.

I want Maricopa county, AZ. Sheriff Joe Arpaio to have his county deputies stop people who have the rear license plate altered with a plexiglass anti photo radar device! Put these people in handcuffs and send them to "Tent City" for a night. We now have more cameras than any other major city in the United States. Come visit our WARM and beautiful state and leave a few dollars in the coffer

Happy Holidays

The Texas law was flawed in that the language did not account for frames that disperse light onto the plate and also covered up a portion of the state name as a result. There wasn't a choice with some vehicles. It was either light or coverage. The state had to rewrite it.

People in Texas are smart. They used to put what ever plates that had current tags on vehicles/trailers that they needed to drive/tow. Then Texas got smart and started putting the truck, trailer stamp on the plate. Registration went up.

Better yet, just buy the new Escort 9500xi. It has a GPS feature that lets you program in the camera locations so it can alert you when you get near one. They don't use radar. I hold my hat over my face when I drive by them and will probably pick up some kid of vanity mirror to block my face with, since it will totally ruin the front shot. Not as easy to do on the bike, but I have heard they need a clear facial ID before they bother mailing the ticket out. My helmet should do the trick there.

Only with regard to the traffic cameras. But their days may be numbered since it just came out that the revenue from them is listed in Nappy's 2009 budget as photo enforcement revenue, proving they're all about revenue and not safety. And it also just came out that there has been a huge increase in rear-end accidents in Scottsdale where those cameras have been for a while. New governor will probably do away with them.
