Is this a good choich for an air compressor?

It's one of those Crafstman 26gallon compressors that comes with a few tools. I know I will have to get a better hose.

What do you think? I'm fillin' up tires and loosening stubborn bolts and doing easy stuff.

It may suit your needs, but oil free + maintenance free = screaming noisy and disposable when it wears out. If you could swing the extra $100 for their 2 stage unit, I think you would be happier in the long run.

I bought mine at Sears 3 years ago and it really does well for it's size.

I've had the horizontal version for about 8 years now. So far so good. Done everything from airing tires to painting guitars and my harley with it. Operates the impact gun, no problem. I'm actually gonna use it tomorrow to prime my new ducktail. Sure it's noisy,but, aren't they all?

Not a fan of the oil free design. They don't seem to last as long. The size of that unit is good as long are not using to much air. It' going to be fine for light to med duty use.

go to cpo.com and look at campbell hausfield deals on reconditioned juans. overbuy on this juan. nothing worse than needing 1/2 impact to bust something and not have enough pressure. die grinders running beaucoup rpm's will kill a compressor. ask me how i know. bought cheap ass sears and it has worked very well over the years for basic stuff. butt cant keep up with die grinder or 1/2 impact.

Jeremy, I have the same set up. Bought it 8 years ago and it is still running strong. Which is too bad, because I hate that noisy SOB! I've done everything from air up tires to paint a car with it. The only thing it really has problems with are air tools that need a constant flow of air, like grinders and chisels. If I had it to do all over again I would have spent more money and got a decent 2 stage compressor.

You have not asked the question in the correct form, which would be -

oilless=loud, cheap, and disposable. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I have a cheapy Coleman that has lasted 10 years.

My buddy has that compressor, and Kurt is spot on with his assessment. I tried using it with a buffer to polish my fan housing, and gave up because the thing took so long to refill after the pressure dropped. I would get about four minutes of use, then at least four minutes of refilling time. :(

I'd (begrudgingly) disagree w/ the disposable comments above... I've had my horizontal 25 gal, 6.5 hp oiless compressor for about 12 years and it still runs like it did day one. it gets used on a fairly regular basis too. I say "begrudgingly," because I've been waiting for an excuse to replace it w/ a 60 gal. 2 stage unit. the thing is bone jarringly loud and runs out of air whenever I want to use a high RPM tool. I think I paid around $400 for it and would gladly send it your way for $200 plus shipping :D
