No Recall for Illinois Governor
http://www.pantagraph.com/articles/2008/04/17/news/doc4806974bb4f5e706171416.txt
Our governor has managed to piss off just about everyone in the state house and the senate--Republican, Independent, and Democrat alike. He has managed to make the Senate President (Emil Jones of Chicago) into his personal lap dog though. Jones has routinely refused to call for a vote any bill the governor does not like--despite overwhelming popular support on both sides of the aisle. Such is the case again, as an Amendment to the state constitution to allow for the recall of state officials has been blocked by the senate president. Why is everyone so pissed off with the governor? He completely ignores budgets and the legislature. He creates new programs with no supporting laws, then funds them by raiding other programs. Then he has the audacity to claim to the legislature that they need to raise taxes--a move that wouldn't be necessary if the governor followed budgets and the law. Never mind that the governor is mixed up in scandal where he allegedly would send Tony Rezko out to shake-down businesses for campaign contributions and dole out "investment" dollars from the teacher's pension as political rewards.

How anyone can live in that state, and especially Chicago, is simply beyond me.
Its not gotten ANY better in the last 50 years either...

My ex gets thoroughly upset by the local school board for the same kinds of things, so she ran for the school board election last month but then she lost.

Now Joe, If you get a few hundred miles south, it isn't so bad. We look out for our neighbors, they look out for us, and most of the time you will get a wave or a nod from a complete stranger. When you don't, you know someone has retired, and moved south from chicago.
Hell, after a while you even get used to that sucking sound. That's the sound of ALL the state's resources getting sucked to chicago, if you didn't know.

Unreal...
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/12/08/chicago.labor.protest/index.html?iref=mpstoryview Company goes kaput and possibly steps on some labor laws... so hold the lending bank responsible? BAC should sue the f' out of him and the state. (not a lawyer, no clue what their options are, disclaimer, etc.) |

I got a good laugh out of that. The company goes under, and the workers think they should get severance pay?! Amazing...... How about finding a new job, instead of sitting on your ass waiting on a handout?

I don't care that they sit there (doesn't bother me)... it just blows my mind that the governor is joining the protest by stopping dealings with the bank that the company used. |

Had the company simply laid off some employees, then I would agree. However, my understanding was that they had closed their doors entirely. Is that correct?
If the company closed it's doors, odds are they owe a lot of debts. Severance for employees should be included in that list, and paid (if possible) when the company assets are liquidated. I hate seeing anyone lose their job, but the reaction is pathetic. And WTF does Bank of America owe the employees?

From what I've heard, the employees were told they would not be paid for vacation not taken, and in some cases, hours already worked. Both are required under federal labor laws. They do have a legitimate gripe if that is accurate.
But what does that have to do with our corrupt governor evading prosecution and avoiding impeachment? BTW, the Emil Jones mentioned above is the same guy who wants Blago to appoint him to Obama's senate seat.

I haven't even heard a single name floated that I find capable, even if I dislike their politics. Maybe he could appoint Pat Quinn? He seems to have been anything but an ally of the governor? What about George Ryan? He could break the glass ceiling for convicted felons...something that might be important for Blago in the future...
