Considering purchase of BMW; '04 745Li
Hello all experts and others
![]() I'm wading into deep waters and considering the biggest automobile that will fit in my garage. A local dealer has a 2004 745Li with 56K on the ODO; offering at 25K. It's listed as a "one owner" car via carfax, and was sold to the dealer at auction. Questions: 1) Is there any way for me to find out how much the dealer paid for this car? 2) Is that a reasonable price for a monstrosity like this? Thanks in advance... --J

Depending on condition, your dealer paid between $18K and $22K for it.
Where are you located? Does it happen to be beige? |

Had one. Tons of shop time............get the service history. BMW dealers can call it up. I wasn't crazy about the car and got rid of it within 3 years.

Those numbers are not correct for a 2004 745Li, which is the car in question.

I looked at these before I bought my Merc. I was disappointed to find that paint had come off many of the buttons on the dash. These cars were 2-3 year old lease cars. No excuse for that kind of thing in a car of that caliber. Maintenece costs looked scary to.

Yeah, BMWs are great cars, but the interiors on the late model ones have some weaknesses, like the buttons you mention. They also have a lot of hard plastic parts which are painted with a rubbery kind of coating to give them some texture and softness, which starts to peel off.

used to get these in our shop. not cars to have out of warranty.
Audi A8's, any Jaguar, and a 7-series BMW....three cars that are worth NOTHING 5 years down the line. there's a reason for it....

Those are the cars which are biggest wasted money ever. I had has one a few years ago (was gray with tan and wood) and it was a lot of troubles! Many reapars and in and out of mechanic.
It was nice to drive however and very large in the back. Many rooms for lots of friends and equipment. It got wrecked one bad night and now I don't have it any more.

Tempting at that price aren't they? The most maintenance intensive car BMW offered at the time I believe, and that's saying something. That car is just getting ready to make someone's wallet scream. Even if you can afford the upkeep, do you want to? Even the Tech guy in the Roundel (BMWCCA) pans the big Bimmers. He has been lambasted by the membership for recommending Hondas. While there's no Honda that compares, I would look at Lexus instead of BMW.

I asked two rather pointed questions - neither of which was "can you give me any vague opinions on any random large BMW of any model year?" Back on topic - assuming I'm insane and want to buy one of these despite the doomsayers: silvertail, do you have access to info based on vin? What about this one:WBAGN63454DS48614 Thanks
