Wow, now that was awesome!

The space shuttle just flew over my house....twice. Well technically it was being piggybacked on the 747 carrier but how cool is that. Supposed to be some NASA pride day or something. SmileWavy

The shuttle landed here in SoCal on Sunday so we got the sonic boom greeting about mid afternoon. I heard it had a layover in Texas on it's way back to Fla.
I bet that was a sight to see.

Porsche_monkey 12-11-2008 09:43 AM

It was supposed to be yesterday. But all the pilots called in gay.

URY914 12-11-2008 10:40 AM

They why it's called a cockpit.

M.D. Holloway 12-11-2008 11:06 AM

VINMAN 12-11-2008 11:07 AM

Left Ft. Worth today and flew in to Barksdale AFB here in Bossier City where it will spend the night.

I will never forget when i was very young (@ 8 or so) my family was on vacation at Coco Beach, Florida...this was before the first space shuttle ever launched...I was playing on the beach and looked up and right in front of me was a 747 flying over the beach piggyback the space shuttle...was SOOOO cool i'll never forget it...

I remember seeing it as a kid on its way to Dulles. IIRC it was flying very low. How low was it for you? Photos?

BRPORSCHE 12-11-2008 07:28 PM

Really low. It did a few circles for the employees at Johnson Space Center. Definitely cool.

Porsche-O-Phile 12-11-2008 07:31 PM

All this talk about piggybacking is ghey.

masraum 12-12-2008 04:11 AM

Damn, I was outside at just about the right time, but downtown, not down near home and NASA. I wish I'd seen it.

I've seen the Guppy that flies in and out of Ellington a few times. That's a freaky looking bird.

onewhippedpuppy 12-12-2008 05:04 AM

I always wanted to see it launch. Looks like I won't get that chance before they discontinue the program.

Porsche_monkey 12-12-2008 06:02 AM

I saw it take off once. I was on the Gulf side. Amazing how visible it was. I'd love to see it from a little closer.

scottmandue 12-12-2008 06:53 AM

I saw one of the shuttles on the ground at Edwards air force base.

They are really big when you see one up close.

BRPORSCHE 12-12-2008 09:46 AM

Ok now I got a video...but I have no idea how to post it here on pelican. Is there anyone that I can e-mail it to so you can host it?
