It was a great day, and the smoked pork loin wasn't bad either.

I guess its significant that the kids are the common denominator, Mike. Further, it supposedly have to do with perspective. To me, a day without a single kid in sight (no women either) is a great day.

I would never give you advice, because when it comes to screwing up a life I am the man, but your kids will be all growed up and gone in the blink of an eye.
I just got to spend about an hour with my baby on the phone. She is in the Army and I miss her very much, so it was a great morning. Gonna finish the detailing of the 911 today so I feel a great day myself today. Dad is bringing his SC over so I can fix some electrical issues. So gonna spend some time with Dad. We are still licking the wounds of my Moms passing 2 weeks ago. I think by the end of the day I might be able to make a post like Lubes.

Naaaah, I'm pretty sure Markus is just referring to "Other people's kids", at work.

A great day indeed.
My son is 5 today. We had his birthday party yesterday. He invited his"best friend" from school and he was so excited that he came. They played like boys do, running around and playing witih the race cars and dinosaurs and sharks and moon sand. After everyone left we loaded into the wagon, got shakes at Mickey D's and drove around to look at Christmas lights. Jacob was almost the perfect kid all day long. He even remembered to close the bathroom door when he went potty. When I tucked him into bed last night, I told him how proud I was that he was such a good boy, he said "I love you too, Dad". I love you too, buddy.

And at the other end of the child spectrum . . .
My daughter & her husband along with the now-independent Room Monkeys bought us steak dinner last night. And they drove & paid! They wouldn't even let me cover the wine. Simply amazing . . . and it only took 29 1/2 child-rearing years . . . Ian

Spent yesterday with my son volunteering our services at a friend of mines Christmas tree farm. We've done it the last five years...I drive the 'Gator and Jack helps the families cut down their trees and put them in the back of the 'Gator for the ride back (it is a very large farm).
We're headed back for a few more hours this afternoon...I thanked him for helping out and he said, "I wouldn't miss this for the world." Sweet music to my ears.

I have three daughters. They are 12 (twins) and 8. One weekend about a year ago, the wife was out of town so I was "in charge". We woke up on saturday morning all four of us at the table and the eight year old says "Let's have ice cream for breakfast". Why not? What is bad about ice cream for breakfast once a year? We have some horses in the country so they decided, "let's go trail riding, and let's take the Porsche." Now this day is starting out right! We rode the horses, then took a drive out in the country, eating hot dogs on the side of the road.
We ended up eating out that evening (Pizza) and watching movies that night ("The Sound of Music"-thier favorite what can I say) and "what about Bob" one of my favs. We stayed up till about 11:45 or so. That night before we all feell asleep, the 8 year old says, "can you pick us up at school Monday in the Porsche." Sure anything for you. It was a Great day! |

I also live in a "house of hormones" so to speak. I have 2 stepdaughters ( 13 and 10). All I can say is that they are really good girls so far. They have done pretty typical stuff to test our patience but overall their hearts are in the right place. We also have a 20 month old son (who is helping me type at this very moment) who is very busy but also very good. They have all provided me with great days in their own way.

Good Stuff! Sounds like a perfect day to me
![]() I've got many, many definitions of what makes a great day; but the older I get the more it seems like "everyday" is a great day. With a perfect wife, 5 Kids and 2 Grandkids, all mixed with ever expanding dreams and goals; it just keeps getting better and better! My son (25yo) works for me, supervising one of my development projects. He's been doing a great job the last few months; often puts in extra hours and comes in on weekends to check up on things; the best part is he never complains about doing the extra, or adds it to his time sheets! Wow. So I told him time for a little payback..... a father and son day off with pay; we went and found some awesome bowls of powder in an area of Sicamous, BC called "Blue Lake"; what a great Friday! That was a great day for me pic:

That's awesome guys. My wife and I hope to have some perfect days in the future. Once we can get our lives stabilized a bit I think it will be time.
One of my memories as a kid was driving through the mountains with my dad in his F150. He would have me shift the 4 on the floor with a can of beans heating up on the exhaust manifold. We'd find a good spot, have lunch, and a good hike.
