That debt will never be paid off if the go into bankruptcy protection, and a lot of suppliers will fold. It's not just G.M., it double, or triple those numbers, maybe even worse.

So, maybe they should come up with a list of creditors and those guys get the bail out bucks.

Why?

The auto suppliers (and other creditors) can look at the financial information available from the auto makers. If they choose to continue to extend credit to them, why should the rest of us have to pay for their decision (error) to lend to their customers?

Right now, I have a customer who isn't paying me, should I be able to force everyone else in society to "reimburse" me for the losses I may suffer from making the decision of "extending credit" to my customer?

When in business, you make decisions; if you are wrong in your decisions, you should suffer the consequences. If you extend credit to people and you don't get paid, you should suffer the loss. If you build products and they don't sell, your business should fail.

Somehow, the people in the auto industry think that everyone else should have to pay for their mistakes.

I'm fully with you on that....But it seems we're all going to have to bear the brunt of this as taxpayers. If GM is claiming all the downstream producers are going to go out of business for THEIR bad decisions, well maybe the comfort should be extended to the downstream producers INSTEAD of GM. Let them get into new business, keep the transmissions flowing, retool to make stuff for Honda, etc.

There's always the saying "don't put all your eggs in one basket". And of course there are all kinds of agreements/restrictions in place, I won't go there....

I'd rather we not have to eat this **** sandwich, but if we do maybe we could eat it in smaller bites.

When the big three go, 90% of them go to. Don't throw good money to them.

Those suppliers are under contractual obligation to continue to supply and extend credit. Contracts signed years ago in some cases. It is a bit simplistic to say they made an incorrect decision.

The basic error was trying to stay in the auto parts business. The majority were doomed to fail, but they had/have no other options.
