By age 30.

I know some people had certain things they wanted to accomplish "by age 30" I am going to be 30 in 2 months and I was wondering what goals some of you guys had set for yourselves and did you get there like you planned?

by 30 I wanted to own a Porsche (some would argue if I actually hit that goal)

at 30 I was married, had 1 child and a house for 6 years.

Goal for 40 is to have my mortgage paid off and buy an investment property of some sort.

I basically had one goal for age 30.... to be a millionaire.
1990; I did it, but I also learned a great lesson of being more specific with my goals

Goal setting is a key to life; I cannot think of a goal not achieved, however the secret is believing in your goals. Now I set goals in all major aspects; Family, Financial, Spiritual, Health, Mental, Friends and Recreation; 1, 5, 10 & 20+ years.

30 was my toughest birthday ever. I kept thinking: I've always thought anyone 30 or more was OLD, and now I'm gonna be there.

Goals I accomplished by 30: Put myself thru college, paid off my house and had a '62 XKE Roadster......Life was good....

Thirty's a tough one.

If you get there and feel pretty good with what you have done, great. If not get to work.
By thirty I wanted to be self employed and own a home that happened the same year at 25.
I got more done from 30 to 40 than I figured or planed to, much of it was luck and timing beyond my control very positive. Fifty's the next stop, staying heathy is something I want but have not asked for until now. Aim high but not so high you disappoint yourself.

30 was an easy b-day for me. I got interested in real estate when I was 25 and had a goal of owning my first house by my 26th b-day. I was two weeks late on that one. In my mid-20's I wanted to get around to running a marathon. I stopped after the seventh one, which was the NYC Marathon when I was 29. I never had a deadline for marriage and wasn't sure if I wanted to do it at all. I figured it was one of those things that should not be on a deadline and I'd do it when I found the right woman. I was 36 when I did it. I've always done a lot of travelling, but there are still some places on my list. No deadlines though. I'm 37 and not worried at all about 40. I've had a better, more fulfulling 37 years than a lot of folks have in 75 or 80.

30 was very easy for me. I always thought people in their 30s to still be pretty young. Growing up in the 80s, most of my favorite musicians and actors, etc. were 30 and beyond....I never really had much respect for "art" from kids in their teens and 20s cause most of it sucked imo.

Now that I am approaching 40, I am debating that one more and more "am I still young??"

...but I still look and feel young and have recent pics to prove it ... so that is what matters most, I feel....if anyone is judging your age...how do you feel about yourself? usually it is on you face.

As far as goals.....What matters to me now is that I accomplish things that make me truly happy, not things that "a person is supposed to do by X age"....that is all BS, because everyone is different.

Set a goal to do what makes you happy and fulfilled. That is the ticket.

PS: Once you get in to your 30s...and start working more and more...the time really really flies. The past 10 years has vanished in the blink of an eye. Everyone older than me tells me that it gets worse and worse as you get older....so embrace the moment and live in the moment.

Like you slakjaw, I'm two months out. At least my fiance has gotten tired of giving me a hard time over it. I haven't put much thought into goals for age 40. I have an idea, but nothing solid yet. Everybody thinks I'm 25-26 so I'll let them keep on thinking that.

I agree, that is where I could have done better at setting goals.
My 30-40 included:
-- Moving to Europe (not counting over 20+ trips over there, Swiss wife contributed to this)
-- Moving to NJ/NY and enjoy what the NE has to offer. NYC rocks!!
-- Attending various Formula 1 races (Budapest, Japan, San Marino,etc..)

-- Having wonderful Twins!!! This trumped all the stuff before, put together!

Remember, its not all about money; its about experiences and love.

Although I really really would love a ocean view home in Laguna Beach!!

My major goal was to get my degree by the age of 30. After I got out of the Army, I knew it would be a long road to work and get through university, especially with a science major. Nobody in my near family had a university degree.
My parents were pretty simple, uneducated people. Neither had finished high school. I remember I was working as a crane operator at a steel mill while going to the local communty college. One time when my parents stopped by while in town, my dad put his arm around my shoulder and said, "You know, you've been going to the college for almost two years now and haven't finished. Why don't you just concentrate on getting a good job?" That gave me a little boost.

True - that's what the job I'm in now has taught me. I miss that someone special back home The part of the assignment with all the travel will be done soon enough though, and the experiences have been fun and helped out on the career development end too. It's all to build a future for this family that doesn't exist yet. Kind of like why people moved out west, or go to Canada to drive trucks over frozen rivers (Ice Road Truckers is a cool show).

I just turned 27, and it suddenly dawned on me that 30 is approaching. I've set forth a few goals, some trivial, some may seem silly, but they're all important to me, in their own way.

I'm making sure I stay single until (at least) I turn 30

Rob...here's where I've always struggled with setting goals for everything. The last quote sort of contradicts your recommendation. With a goal-oriented life, you're always working toward, or striving for some achievement. In my mind, that detracts from the mantra..."live for today, life is short". Always striving to achieve the goal is sort of like striving to get to a point where you can relax and enjoy.

I didn't always feel that way. Pushing 50 now...after having met and missed many goals over the last 30 years. Fortunately, I've met the important ones (great marriage, kids, home-life and always made a decent buck)...but simply picked the wrong goals in terms of career and professional fulfillment (see avatar). Made many of those goals and wound up in a place that's not what I expected. Would do the career thing over if given the chance.

Setting and achieving goals is one thing....most of us can do that. Setting and achieving the "right" goals is a much more difficult process. If you're young and embarking on lifes greatest decisions...be aware of that. An honest soul search is required!
