Iphone at Wal-Mart?

Read a news article that Walmart might be selling the Iphone by the end of this month. Would be better to wait and see or just buy one from ATT now?

Looks like they will only be very slightly cheaper at WalMart; slightly = $2.

According to reports, ATT stores have 8GB 3G refurbs for $150.

Ya I saw that list night. Are those just returns. A dewalt rep told my dad once that 99.999%of their refurbs are just people buy it open it and take it back. Now it can be sold as new so they check it clean it and sell as a refurb.

Apple/ATT are claiming they are just returns. I did read that they are only offering a 90 day warranty "or longer."

How ever you get the phone, you won't regret the purchase, IMO.

I've bought a few refurb items in the past. I prefer a factory refurb with an as new warranty. I bought a Makita cordless drill from http://www.cpomakita.com/. I've bought a refurbished monitor a few years back and have had a couple of other items. I've never had a problem with anything refurbished. Usually the stuff looks brand new.

Would it be worth the extra 49 for the new and warranty?

For me it would, without a doubt.

I think if you buy it at BestBuy, you can get a decent third party "no excuses" warranty/insurance, i.e. if you drive over or shoot a hole in the iPhone, they will replace it free.

ATT and Apple do not directly offer such insurance for the iPhone.

FYI, I cracked the glass screen on my iPhone and Apple "allowed" me to buy a new one at the contract subsidized price. Apple has no provision to replace the glass/digitizer/screen assembly - you just buy a new iPhone.

But, there are many reputable shops that will do this repair for about $150 or less, AFAIK, if you don't mind being phone-less for a few days. The Apple store will even recommend a shop.

FYI.

Pretty much correct.
