Wiring the house for HDTV

I finally broke down and bought a Sony LCD HDTV for the bedroom and after the satellite installer left, I have cable running all over the bedroom. I want to organize the wiring along with running surround sound in the bedroom, but I'm not sure where to start.

What I'm thinking about is placing the satellite box (and the control unit for the surround sound) on the other side of the bedroom, against the wall and run a patch cable from the sat box to the wall outlet. From the wall outlet, run the cable through the wall into the attic and then back down to an outlet, and run a patch cable to the TV. I've seen outlet boxes at Lowes but they're out of their fricken mind as far as pricing. Not sure if this is the best way to wire the TV so I'm open to any suggestions and/or recommended websites or suppliers (especially for HDMI cable).

I'd keep the sat receiver as close to the TV as possible.

Your natural inclination is to point the remote at the TV, not across the room in a completely diff direction.

50 ft is your max for an HDMI run. You will probably be less than that. But coax is cheaper than HDMI so why not keep that run short.

If you are trying to keep costs down, then do as the monkey says and keep the box next to the TV.

There are numerous products on the market for extending the reach of video standards like HDMI but none of them are cheap. If I were going in-wall, I'd consider one of Gefen's solutions:
