The Birds
We have our own Hitchcock thriller every morning now. Used to be about 8-10 birds year or two ago. This morning I counted 70 on the wires and in adjacent trees. They are very beautiful, but the screeching-squawking is horrendous. During most of the day they are out of sight and sound, but early morning, like clockwork, the screeching can wake the dead. Fortunately, they wait at least til 7am.
Here's few photos of the Red Crowned Amazon flock. The last photo I took would have won a Pulitzer if I wasn't ducking and missed half of him. lol Not sure if he intended to scare me, but he swooped within 15 ft, and as he did all, of them took off to the east in search of breakfast. Wiki says their endangered, native to northern Mexican and SoCal and make good talkative pets. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red-crowned_Amazon http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1229875941.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1229875967.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1229876007.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1229876029.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1229876065.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1229876104.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1229876154.jpg |
Very popular cage birds. A good specimen costs at least $800 in Sweden! Catch and send to me. We split the money and make a fortune!
Great pics! |
I lived in Temple City for years (not too far north of Whittier) and I remember those birds very well. A few of them are nice to look at but I've also seen them in the hundreds and they can make quite a racket.

Come on down to Belmont Shore in LB. We have what seems to be hundreds. Just enough pets escaped to start a flock years ago.
Now, you ought to see the occasional flock of black birds. Must be 300 to a group and when they visit a tree, it changes color! |

[QUOTE=Steve Carlton;4372481]Take a look out there now...
LOL! Might look like that next year at the rate their multiplying. Can you add a few large cats to give me hope? |
Sorry. For some reason, all the cats are gone...

There is a large flock of those in San Diego east county as well. They sure can make a racket!
