4 Inches of snow. Hide your women and children. Store up on supplies!

The NY/NJ area is getting some snow and sleet today. Roughly from sleet up to 4 inches the max. The media is covering it like it is Armageddon. It is amazing. the news has the banner "Storm of 2008"! WTF?? They are scaring the crap out of everyone. I made it home in record time. No traffic. Road were clear.
Everytime they forcast snow around here, the media acts like it is the end of the world. I never remember this nonsense when i was younger.

Do they pull this crap everywhere ? Or is it a NY/NJ thing?

Same media crap here. They call it "Arctic Blast 2008"!

It was below freezing for 4-5 days straight and snowed 4" then wave #2 brought a trace.

The news said stores are running out of food and showed pictures of everyone at costco preparing for the storm so more people rushed to costco. I went to a normal grocery store (because I was out of food) the night before "the 2nd wave of the arctic blast" and it was business as usual.

Schools have been closed all week for safety. It's at least 40 degrees yesterday and today. I have seen kids sledding down my street crossing another road totally blind and unable to stop towards the oncoming traffic. Don't want them to slip on the way to class and fall during arctic blast!

At least the news isn't focused on the terrors in gresham this week........

We had 11 inches in town today. What a freakin' mess.

Michigan is supposed to get a storm with accumulation Sunday/Monday and then again Wednesday/Thursday.

Had about a foot here. One would think that we would be used to it by now, but no - the local news channels pre-empt EVERYTHING to give us continuous snow emergency coverage!!!

Give me a flippin break. They had reporters all over looking for incidents. They cut from their newsroom story to a reporter showing the viewers A STUCK CAR!! OMG~! The humanity!

Stupid, stupid, stupid!

We just got power back after 4 days from an ice storm.
Headline on day three - "Maine man wins survivor."
No information at all on what was going on around the area.
Idiots !

Just got back from a drive in the latest "blizzard" (spooky scribble font).
It was fun.

World is ending again on sunday .

18" of beautiful powder today. Had the pleasure of ascending a decent hill in the neighborhood (with the snow tire equipped Mazda3) that 3 SUVs got stuck attempting. The look on the frustrated H3 driver's face when I made it to the stop sign at the top, waved and went on my way was absolutely priceless.

I would imagine at least 3 people visited the Mazda dealership that day, ..... if they're smart anyway.

The H3 is the pinnacle of wanna be SUVs imo. Useless pos. I'de sooner take the bus.

Got a foot here last night. Was blasting around town with the 4Runner tackling unplowed hills, practicing controlled descents, busting through snow banks and driving up Target parking lot snow hills.

12 inches of snow in southern Wisconsin. I spent the night in Madison at a friends house because I had a morning exam. After 12 inches of snow I tried to get home. I tried my normal route and I couldn't get closer than 6 miles away from my house. The roads were unplowed and had 4 foot drifts going across. I tried another route and after blasting through many drifts hitting them at about 40 mph I was able to get 1 mile from my house. I parked my car at the neighbors farm and walked the rest of the way to my house. The plow finally came through almost 24 hours later and I was able to retrieve my car.

I agree the media sensationalizes the storms like it is the end of the world. The meteorologists must be a boring group and need look at these snow falls as their time to "spice up" there otherwise boring job.

People don't watch or pay attention of it doesn't sound like the end or the world or something.

I grew up near the north west coast of BC. The last winter I was there we had one snow fall that got 34 inches of snow in the first 24 hours. Yes, that's 34. No typo, and in inches not centimetres. It continued snowing until we had accumulated a whopping 38 inches over two days. I have pics of my dad's VW bus with snow up to the windows. It was crazy, even for there, which regularly got large show falls. But the previous year we had Christmas where people were worried about getting flooded out.
