Caught a cold right before the holidays

I'm pissed, I have not been sick in 3 years. Just got back from the doctor, sat in the waiting room for 10 minutes, sat in the examining room for 40 minutes, saw the doctor for 30 seconds, no bedside manner whatsoever. Prescribed cough medicine and no antibiotics. I'm contagious, i have to cook x-mas eve for a large group
This sucks

Why would you go to the Dr. for a cold? I am just getting over one. No matter what you do, it will stick around 7-10 days.

I normally don't, but I wanted a prescription for cough medicine (codeine)

I feel your pain, been there, done that.

I suffered under 5-10 colds/flu's per year for about 25 years, went to all sorts of doctors, medicines, inhalers etc etc. They thought I was asthmatic, had lung cancer, unfit and generally just bad health.

Solution for me turned out to be water. I was just always dehydrated as I did not drink enough H2o. Now I drink much more (the regulation 2 l per day), but when I get a cold I cut any diuretics out (e.g. coffee) and try and drown the cold. Effect is that it goes away in about 4 days or so (keep the odd sniffle and cough, but nothing major). I also use a brine solution to clear my nasal passages (in the shower, use kosher salt and a turkey baster).

Now I get maybe 1 cold per year, lasts a few days....all is well....

Dennis

Oh yeah, I exercise regularly, reduced my size (gained weight) and am in better condition now than 20 years ago.

A pharmacist recommended to me Zicam & Airborne together, as they work in different ways. If I take them when I feel the first tinge of a cold coming on, it almost always knocks it out the same day. Wouldn't hurt to try it now as well.

A PharmD recommended Airborne?

Quote:
NEW YORK (CNN) -- Airborne - the herbal supplement company that once claimed to help fight off colds - will pay $23.3 million to settle a class-action lawsuit brought against the company for false advertising, according to one of the groups that joined the suit.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest, a non-profit advocacy group, said the company will refund money to consumers who bought Airborne's product. It will pay for advertisements in major publications instructing consumers on how to get their money refunded.

"There's no credible evidence that what's in Airborne can prevent colds or protect you from a germy environment," said CSPI Senior nutritionist David Schardt. "Airborne is basically on overpriced, run-of-the-mill vitamin pill that's been cleverly, but deceptively, marketed."

I went to the ER yesterday for a cold, a real nasty one that caused me an ear infection. I had not felt sick and in so much pain for a long time. They prescribed penicilin, and my ear is feeling better but still not fully healed. I was losing hearing and pressure was building up. I hope I`ll be over it for X-mas.

Yeah great narcotic for a cold or for anything.

I remember when you could buy that stuff without a prescription.

As long as you didn't catch it from one of these girls.

Yes, and this was after their settlement. Don't believe me and save $10. All I can say is it's been a magic bullet for me in combo with Zicam (which didn't work as well by itself, BTW). YMMV.

Wow no kidding? Might as well try it as I have always caught them also. Thanks!! btw... RWEBB posted on another thread that a study had been preformed. Basically said people that have caught a lot of colds have less of a chance of getting cancer, something about the immune system being trained.
