Old American Muscle - Suicide Lincoln

These old American lead sleds are classic. Are there any other Suicide Lincoln owner within our ranks? Although there different then our Porsche's, my opinion, just as timeless and cool. They remind me of the original Ocean's 11. Ding ading ding.

Bro car

My brother had a red one. Good classic steel. Spend a little time cleaning all the connections for the starting and charging systems and keep a new solenoid in the trunk with a few wrenches.

When my wife and I got married I wanted a unique getaway car. I asked on a Lincoln forum if anyone had a suicide door Continental that would be willing to spend an afternoon and someone local offered to drive us in their car.

The car was a beautiful black on black convertible and the owner was very nice. I had my best man tip him $200 for helping us out. He didn't even want gas money!

Funny. I have a long time friend in Stockholm. He builds sleepers for himself and rich people. He has one those in the first pic but the engine and drive train is from an almost new Viper. Pretty funny to see peoples surprised faces when the light turns green.

I had seriously shopped for a 67 ragtop for a while. Black on white or black on black would have been my choice. I remember a 12 (?) piston hydraulic roof as well as the old 460 with the wedge heads. Certainly a good candidate for a modern drive train / bake conversion.

Every time I watch Entourage and see the 65 drop top in the opening credits, it makes me want one. Seems like a great crusing ride.

TITLE: Hot Rod Lincoln

My pappy said, "Son, you're gonna' drive me to drinkin'
If you don't stop drivin' that Hot Rod Lincoln"

Have you heard this story of the Hot Rod Race
When Fords and Lincolns was settin' the pace
That story is true, I'm here to say
I was drivin' that Model A

It's got a Lincoln motor and it's really souped up
That Model A body makes it look like a pup
It's got eight cylinders, uses them all
It's got overdrive, just won't stall

With a 4-barrel carb and a dual exhaust
With 4.11 gears you can really get lost
It's got safety tubes, but I ain't scared
The brakes are good, tires fair

Pulled out of San Pedro late one night
The moon and the stars was shinin' bright
We was drivin' up Grapevine Hill
Passing cars like they was standing still

All of a sudden in a wink of an eye
A Cadillac sedan passed us by
I said, "Boys, that's a mark for me"
By then the tail light was all you could see

Now the fellas was ribbin' me for bein' behind
So I thought I'd make the Lincoln unwind
Took my foot off the gas and man alive
I shoved it on down into overdrive

Wound it up to a hundred-and-ten
My speedometer said that I hit top end
My foot was glued like lead to the floor
That's all there is and there ain't no more

Now the boys all thought I'd lost my sense
And telephone poles looked like a picket fence
They said, "Slow down! I see spots!
The lines on the road just look like dots"

Took a corner, sideswiped a truck
Crossed my fingers just for luck
My fenders was clickin' the guardrail posts
The guy beside me was white as a ghost

Smoke was comin' from out of the back
When I started to gain on that Cadillac
Knew I could catch him, I thought I could pass
Don't you know by then we'd be low on gas

We had flames comin' from out of the side
Feel the tension, man, what a ride!
I said, "Look out, boys, I've got a license to fly"
And that Caddy pulled over and let us by

Now all of a sudden she started to knockin'
And down in the dips she started to rockin'
I looked in my mirror; a red light was blinkin'
The cops was after my Hot Rod Lincoln

They arrested me and they put me in jail
And called my pappy to throw my bail
And he said, "Son, you're gonna' drive me to drinkin'
If you don't stop drivin' that Hot Rod Lincoln!"

When I was in High School a friend, whose father made his living restoring continentals among other things, always had a cool Continental ragtop at his disposal. I mean, these things were perfect! We had a great time cruising the Lake front in those babies. Probably looked like a pack of spoiled wankers though.

Very cool car.

Back in high school someones dad had one and they used if for "the pie mafia".

For a price they would pull up... jump out... and throw a pie in the face of anyone you wanted "hit"

That didn't last long.

I also love the big square caddies.

I haven't seen one since my gas station job in Palm Desert in the early '80's. A customer had one that was owned by one of the Marx brothers.

drove one all through high school, I paid $600 for it and had to tow it home. A master cylinder later and I was set. Sadly the top got stuck in the down position in October and needed new hydraulic rams. Well I drove to school in ski goggles for a while.

I sold it to a collector in the early 90's, last I knew he parted it to build some others.

edit: Forgot to mention I was too stupid to realize you could disconnect the cylinders and close the top. Think my step father knew and was playing a joke on me.
