I think it would be very nice within in the Pelican family to be able to address our long distance friends on a first name basis. Many of our threads are very sensitive, emotional and heart aching. Addressing the poster with his/her first name gives the communication a more personal and sincere touch.
Just my 3 Swedish Crowns..thanks for listening.
Edit: Please note, I am not wishing for the personal touch only because I am a sensitive, feminine fluffer/pediatrician.

Easy for you to suggest; you're safely on the other side of the pond.
Those of us in the U.S. have to be concerned that some "nut job with a gun" might read what we post here, dislike what we say, and might start trying to attack us by committing acts of violence against those who might be us.
Imagine if I said my name was "John." People can see that my location is Summerville, SC. Some "nut job with a gun" (and you know we have plenty of those here -- both guns and "nut jobs") might start killing all the "Johns" in Summerville in an attempt to kill me!
One just can't be "too careful."
Sincerely,
John Smith
