The bed of the Toyota wobbling like that is nuts. Neat video to watch, thanks for the link. Ford trucks have a great reputation, glad to see they're still making them well.

I can see Dodge's reply to this test:
"Yeah, but it's got a HEMI!!!"

It's unfortunate that Toyota kowtowed to the American public so badly that they built something that weak.
Put any 1975 to 1995 Toyota pickup on that test, and It'll pass. Then put a 1975 to 1995 Chevy or Ford on there

I got rid of my '90 F150 4x4 last yr. Had 306,000 mi on it. Still ran like hell. Burnt a tiny bit of oil. Only needed a tranny overhaul at around 210,00. Aint a better vehicle made.

I hate fords. I love my tundra. That test was an info-mercial for ford. Paid for by ford, designed by ford, editted by ford. I can guaranty you it was specifically designed to feature the ford and make the others look bad. If you played with the bump spacing a little you could design it to tear the ford apart. They tuned it to the suspension, or tuned the ford suspension to it. It's all about resonance and response, not that hard to do. While it is dramatic it is not representative of real life. I was frankly surprised by the test(s)...I have owned Toyota, Dodge (Powerwagons back in the 70's), Chevy and Ford trucks and frankly never throught there was that much difference between them, especially the 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton variety.
I currently drive a 2005 F-150 4x4 Crew Cab with the big V-8 for towing horses, a dump trailer and a flat bed trailer. Works great but 21 mpg is a pipe dream ![]() I also have a small 2001 Tacoma for the samll jobs.

Those are tests that Ford has designed to, I'm not saying they don't make great trucks as they obviously do but those tests are meant to accentuate the Ford's strong points. Toyota or Chevy could design tests that would make them look better.
The bed moving vid looks bad but what exactly is it telling you? Are you worried the bed will fall off? It's visually shocking but meaningless.

I don't think the full size trucks are made in Canada any more, are they?

Interesing website and comparisons. Amazing how much flex the Toyota had through the bumpy course.

Good thing I do not drive in Creek beds all day long in my Toyota Tacomas.
Owning a Land Surveying business and working in the business for over 20 years I have tried a few different brands of pickup trucks. Ford can shake them all they want, I gave Ford 2 tries and their trucks were not dependable for me. My Toyota's are retired when they hit 200K miles and in EVERY Toyota I have owned has never needed any major repairs nor has it broken down and stranded a crew. The bonus is we only buy Tacoma's with 4 cyl engines and they all get 25 MPG or better and that is all city driving. I guess we will keep from driving down river beds at 40 MPH and we will be fine.

Did you have any issues with the Tacoma's snapping in half? There is a service bulletin from Toyota about that... -Z

i just traded my F150 work rig for a 2008 chevy silverado. i had both trucks brand new. while the chevy is totally posh right now, and smooth as silk, i feel that the ford would have outlasted it hands down. i did scary things with the ford. i once had to be "rescued" with a excavator.

I think the handling test has some merit to it. Not that I haul around 990 lb. coils of wire, but one could easily toss 4 dead union bosses in the back and have to get out of Detroit quick. The F150 would be the top pick for the job.

Like I said they all run to 200K miles without a single issue, they are easy on clutches and brakes as well. IIRC I have owned 6 different Tacoma's / Pickups over the years and not one issue with any of them. The two 2006 4x4 Tocoma's I have right now have been flawless. One has 70K miles the other 50K miles and both have never given a single problem. Ford Rangers / Mazda B series are the same trucks and they suck too. I had a Ranger/Mazda and it was in the shop every month for 4 months straight for service. After the 4th breakdown I sold it cheap to an employee who wanted it despite my warnings it sucked. He had nothing but trouble with it and ended up trading it in on a Toyota. We had a F150 at a former company and it was troublesome too, its inconvenient when your personal car / truck breaks down its epensive when a Fleet work truck breaks down, that F150 did not last long. Most of the time family / employees and friend buy my retired trucks, most of them go past the 300K mark problem free.

I started to research buying a pick up about 3 years ago. My main concern was value, as in bang for the buck. I bought a base model Nissan Titan for under $20K. Ford was the closest for a like optioned model at about $2K more, Chevy & Dodge were closer to $5K more. When the new Tundra came out it was about $7K more. Two & a half years later I have no regrets & no problems.

I think that service bulletin applies to the northern climates, salt and snow caused excessive rusting, iirc.
