Maybe what the Panamera should have been?

I know, I know, there has already been a thread, but the more i see pix of the Panamera, the more nauseated i become. It seems like a poster child of how Porsche has lost its way. If the car were more striking, i think that i could swallow it somewhat better, but let's face it... it's not a captivating design in the least. Anytime you have to say... 'well it will prolly look better in person', u have a dog. Anyway, i stumbled across a new 4 door that is going to be produced by the guys that run the factory in Finland which makes the Cayman and Boxster. Got to thinking, did someone screw up the Fedex package with the final plans of the panamera? This thing has great lines, and even has some Porschesque styling details. Now THIS is a 4 door i might consider buying if it had good performance.

I would like to believe in that theory too about the screwed up package. I agree with you, now that's a captivating look.

It is not possible for the Panamera to look like that, because it has to have a full sized rear seat, capable of sitting full sized adults, and luggage capacity to carry their luggage.

REALLY glad that's NOT the Panamera. That's a 14 year old's wet dream, or even a (gasp) BMW.

The Panamera is no great shakes but it's not that bad.

The Panamera is a dog, whereas this is only... eh...

But, the Panamera is still a dog.

I agree....this one has no Porsche 911 styling cues. Paradoxically, the Panamera has too many 911 cues. Instead of thinking outside the box and designing an awesome sedan, they do whatever they can to make it look like a 911. The Panamera is just a sedan version of a Cayenne.

They don't make 911's anymore and you should be glad you own one...or more.

It's tragically hilarious to hear Wiedeking use the justification of avoiding "brand dilution" when fielding questions about the directions people say the company SHOULD be taking. IMHO, like making a lightweight, relatively inexpensive sports car a la the Elise/Exige; they could own Lotus' mostly-Brit, Toyota-powered products if they put their minds to it. Instead, they conjure up an abortion like the Panamera, and put the Porsche name on it.

More and more, the company is becoming less special and adopting practices and making products like everyone else. Which means the products will be regarded as less special as time goes by, and will assume the same depreciation curves as everyone else.

I don't see how they justified making the Panamera while not resurrecting the 928.

Course, lately Porsche's marketing people have been much smarter than their critics. If I had to have an SUV and could have anything, there would be no question, it would be a Cayenne.

It looks like a M6 bimmer rear ended a Cayman...I kinda like it.

The 2009 997 w/ direct injection and PDK transmission is AWESOME!!! Looking at that car, I don't think Porsche has "lost it's way" at all.

In fact, Porsche is about the only car company that has it right, look at the trouble all of the rest are in!!!

Doesnt Fisker use Bimmers or Benz's for the base of thier cars and just re-skin them and add to the interior? I think the sedan looks retty nice.

These guys seem to have been able to do it, back in '62 even. And they didn't copy the front end of the 911 - the 911 copied them. :)

Aren't some of the Aston-Martins four door?

Those are some pretty sweet cars.

I don't think the Porsche rear-end can work on a four-door. They need a different direction.
