Hard to Handle

When you can see Pigpen sing!!! I apologize if you have seen this... but this dude can sing.. and the back up band doesn't suck either http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjVlA2E_fOI&feature=related Black Crows should bow to Pig lol |
pig pen rules. pig pen era dead will always be my favorite
RIP September 8, 1945 – March 8, 1973 that clip is from the film, A Night at the Family Dog - dvd. While short, its quite good with some very rare film. Im not much of a Sanatan fan but the Santana performance on this DVD is really good in the same way that his Woodstock performance was good. more pig pen <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/kqdEaxcOohA&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/kqdEaxcOohA&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/G5HqxpdX5d8&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/G5HqxpdX5d8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2tYxNQ0eu1s&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2tYxNQ0eu1s&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/c_OtelBCEis&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/c_OtelBCEis&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> |

Not bad, but you HONESTLY think that's on the same level as the Trans-Siberian Orchestra?
Not even close. Not even in the same league. |

TSO is a manufactured produced contrived product... quite similar to Menudo, New Kids, Jonas Bros, but with a push to make you think its a really great cultural experience.... I thought TSO sucked... it was like a never ending elevator ride MUZAC !!!!.... A few years ago I took my GF to see Taj Mahal, on Valentines Day.... the show was titled " Give her the blues for Valentines" or something..... Just one guy, his guitar, he played Piano on a few tunes also... and a plank of wood he kept time on... that is music.... Also... that vid I posted is almost 40 years old.... made by a bunch of LSD tripping potheads... not bad given the challenges they might experience lol FWIW my boss asked me if I wanted tickets to see TSO again this year...I said nothanks.... give them to another sucker |
Also the Dead and Spinal Tap had some rotating positions always avaliable.... ie drummer or keyboard...
TSO has two "troupes" with constantly changing members..... I like my music spontaneus...raw, improvised, real..... |
sorry, I would need to be high to say that the gratefull dead did a great job on this cover.

I still like this version. |
I never could understand all the dead hysteria. Nothing there to get excited about IMO.
Maybe it was just an image that people wanted to cling to? |
are you really asking if it was just an image to cling to? for some, probably. others of us, just love the music. not all of it, but enough to be touched or entertained. i particularly love the country songs they did, merle haggard, johnny cash, george jones covers etc.... i also love their experimental, jazzier stuff that was inspired by coltane and miles davis. if you like music, particularly if you are a musician, there is some very inspired drumming and guitar work to be found that can not be found in other rock n roll bands, with a few exceptions
as far as image goes, like any band, they summon an image of something. with the dead for me, its sunny and hot afternoons in the grass drinking a beer and relaxing. sure, thats an image i cling to |
i certainly wouldnt call it "hysteria". the beatles, 1964, U.S.A... that was hysteria
