ipod nano
I received an ipod for christmas, and I have questions.
1. Do you have to pay for the album artwork for the albums you own and rip to your pc? (they want my CC#) 2. $15 gift card, songs are $0.99, 15 songs and who gets the other $0.15? 3. Anybody using the Zune, and does it use Windows Media Player? |
Won't do ipod or zune due to corporate overlords... Got my daughter a nice video/fm radio/mp3 player from best buy ($50 on sale), looks just like the ipod w/ wheel control, etc., but no software is required. Just drag and drop files. Works on her Mac running Linux, my PCs with Linux, and the wifes laptop with Windows.

Thanks id10t,
Are you using windows media player and do you have the album artwork? Thanks peppy |
Album artwork is downloaded automatically (free) by applications like Media Player and iTunes. You DON'T pay for it. iPods are trendy for a reason - the UI is absolutely top notch but you have to drink Mac's coolaid (iTunes) propriety formats and DRM.

No charge for the artwork.
The 15 cents will stay in your account until you use it. If you are like me, eventually you'll hear a song you want to buy. No experience with Zune. |

I don't know if they charge your CC. |
No they won't charge you for cover art. They just want to make it REALLY EASY for you to click the
"buy now" button when/if you visit their music store ;) |
You do need a credit card to open an account on iTunes, but they don't charge the card unless you make a purchase. As has been said, album artwork is free.

2: Isn't that $.01 the tax? 3: I am not sure about the zune. |
Thanks, Justin S
Most state sales tax is more than 1%. |
No sales tax yet on iTunes. Each of my songs has cost exactly .99
|
That's weird, I've never put in my credit card, and I get artwork. There must be a setting that you haven't got set right, or they are trying to get to the itunes store at the same time as they are talking about album artwork. It definitely shouldn't require a credit card to get the album covers.
iPods kick butt. I'm not one for corp stuff that enforces a monopoly, but the iPod is top notch. |
Actually I think if you just forgo the credit card/account setup iTunes will still DL the art work for music you import/rip.
|
You can run itune without a credit card. Credit card is only for DOWNLOADING songs from itune store. If you copy your CD collection to Itune there is no charge.

Is there an mp3 player that works with WMP?
I think I am going to return the ipod, I don't like itunes, I think it is too hard for me to figure out. |
dont give up on itunes so easily. its quite easy once you spend some time exploring it - like most software applications.
if your hardware is up to date (fast) and you have disc space, you may come to love it. i do. ive got over 17 thousand songs in mine and making playlists is a lot of fun. i tend to rip in lossless format because the MP3 sound quality is not to my total satisfaction. when im in an audiophile mood, i toss on some vinyl or a CD. my overall listening though, is usually through itunes nowdays |

It take twice as long to rip a cd in itunes and I still get no artwork unless I give a CC when I register. I also have to teach my wife how to use itunes and share music. |
You can open the itunes account with just the gift card, no other CC needed.
