Excellence

Is Excellence still just about water cooled cars?

I got a letter in the mail saying my subscription had lapsed (about 3 years ago) and they missed me. They didn't miss me enough to offer any incentives however. Anyone else get that?

I can't see how that publication can survive catering to the "NEW" Porsche owner.

If I were to guess I would say excellence is 50/50 air/water cooled. Read it cover to cover.

It seems Excellence has expanded their coverage and I thought they have had some nice articles on older Porsches ranging from the 356 to the 914 to the 944, 928 and the older 911s. I have gotten Excellence now for nearly 10 years and I think it is the best now. I just renewed my subscription for another 3 years.

I got the letter a couple of weeks ago. After one year I was done with it. Magazines are like people, they never change except people get fatter but the mags get skinnier.

It's the only subscription mag I get.

In fact, several Pelicans have had features done on their cars in recent years.

Lots of advertising would be my biggerst complaint but ya gots to pay the bills.

Had to go to the mall so I looked at the latest issue. Not enough technical details and / or in site to be entertaining.

Somebody tell me when the 84-88 pricing issue hits Borders

I get it and ONLY read about the old cars. The new cars are of absolute zero interest to me.

Latest "barn find" in this issue: a 1970S 911 with 766 ORIGINAL miles.

Just when you say; "How many barn finds can still be out there?" One pops up.

I'm a subscriber and have been for 3 years now... content just keeps getting better IMO. There's plenty for the aircooled crowd. Seems every issue there's one big story on some rare aircooled classic or, on the contrary, a hot rodded r-gruppe style car.

It's fun to dream about cars like the GT2 and such they do feature, and it is fun to read in such detail about them, detail you can't get from anywhere else.

That's why I just resub'd.

I have been getting Excellence for over ten years. For me, it has slowly gone downhill over the years. I am on the fence as to whether or not I will renew for 2009.

The thing I hate most about it is all the advertising. Too much. 2nd only the Panorama in terms of the ads to meaty article ratio.

Just my $0.42,
-Z-man.

Have them all since the very first one. It has come a long way. The latest issue I read had a bit of everything. 356 articles, early 911's Turbo's out the kazoo. I have them all stashed somewhere which is pretty pathetic.

The article in the last Excellence that fascinated me most was the one about the guy who acquired the '70 911S with only 766 miles on the clock. What a lucky bastard.

I finally subscribed this month after 10+ years of buying it off the rack at my local Chapters store. Sure it's ad heavy but I love the frequent long-hood hot rod articles as well as the reviews of the new Porsche models. I really like 911 and Porsche World from the UK but it's prohibitively expensive to subscribe so I only buy the issues that really inspire me, the rest I flip through while enjoying a coffee at the store.

I thought the magazine has plenty of coverage of aircooled in it. I think they have a nice balance.

I think it's worth it just to see the Pelican's cars on here - Doug's silver RSR lightweight - Matteo's 3.9 - Flieger's - I'm always intrigued as to the content and details that's left out as to what's included.

Not interested in water cooled cars at all but think it is a fantastic magazine. Would like more small event coverage like Classic Adelaide, etc. but cornpanzer & friends do a great job.

Now that i'm thinking about it a monthly section on small int'l events would be great. 2 or 3 pages of photos and story about various amatuer rally events, vintage racing events, etc. would hit the spot!

Everyone says they like 30 to 50% of it.

Is it worth $25 for 9 issues.

Anyone subscribe to Hemmings Sports and Classic (? actual title)?
