Any Pelican Racquetball players?

I've been a tennis guy most of my life, and I took up racquetball about a year and a half ago. I'm completely addicted to it!

I'm somewhere between a B & a C player, and playing about 4-5 days a week. I really love it, and I'm excited to get better at it.

Anyone else play out there?

I used to play a lot in college, but have only played a handful of times since (graduated in 2002). Unfortunately the places with racquetball courts in this area are few and far between, and typically really expensive besides (closest I could find to my home is about 15 miles and costs around $150/month). Squash courts are much easier to find around here, so I've been considering going over to the dark side... never tried squash.
In any case, I agree that it is an addicting game. My senior year I was playing about as much as you are now, great exercise and a lot of fun besides!

I was playing a few years ago almost everyday. It got a good sweat going and far more interesting than running on the treadmill. Unfortunately being a bit too competitive, I went after a ball I should have just left. Slammed into the wall and broke my collarbone into 4 pieces. I have played maybe 20 games since I healed up but did not do as well as before. I might give it a try again this summer.

Not what you asked, but there was a guy who used to show up in boxing headgear to play. Nice guy, but odd.....really odd.

Similar but different, I was playing Squash regularly until I switched jobs about 4 months ago. Great workout. Both mind and body. I've never been much for running or stationary bikes.

I played a serious amount when I was in the Navy. We had a requirement for X amount of excercise per week, and it was a hell of a lot more fun than a treadmill. I'm too cheap to pay a sports club, and I lost my gym membership after I left the Navy. Maybe later on.... Still the best aerobic workout for me! Great game!

I hear a lot about military racquetball. Is that a standard thing on military bases?

I have played for years.....I am about a C player.......It is a great form of exercise, to the point of near total exhaustion. I started playing against a neighbor who is 20 years my senior. He beats me 3 out of 4 games with those shots that are 2 inches off the deck.

Use to play a few times a week before school when in high school. A raquetball club opened next to the school. It was very big in the early 80's but fell out of fashion, I guess.

I would like to try it again. I don't think I'll move as fast as 25 years ago, though.

Mike--Maybe we could get together next year and play a game or two?

With your collarbone and my broken foot injuries we might not hurt anything.

I used to play religiously but then I started having problems with tennis elbow (or is that racquetball elbow). It got to where after two or three matches I would have such pain that I couldn't move my arm. Haven't played in years but man I loved it. I used to be able to beat everyone I played just on serves. I could have it come off the front wall and hit the side wall in the rear corner and roll off like it was just pushed along the floor. The ball was never more than a foot off the floor. Maybe that's why I have such bad elbow problems.

Wayne,
I am all for it. I have an extra raquet if you need one.

i used to play all through school. helped to have a school gym available. now that i am way out of college, i just dont have easy access to a court.

i recieved the worst sprained ankle in my history on a raquetball court. it was excruciating. i bet i have zero game now.

now PingPong...that be a different story. still fun, still accessable, still have some game left.

As far as I have seen it's extremely popular in the military. For the most part it's older 30+ (remember the demographic) who play regularly. You get free gym access, and the courts are always in great shape! That's definately one benefit I miss.
