fire safe ciggatettes??

Any smokers out there??. I am not sure if this is a nation wide thing or not, but all cigarettes sold in Pa, are now fire safe cigarettes. I guess there is some chemical added to them that makes them go out if you are not constantly hitting on them. I have noticed that ever since they came out, (3-4 months now) that I get headaches that are directly related to how frequent I smoke. The taste is also nasty. I am not sure if the headaches are from the added chemical, or maybe that you have to drag on them more frequently to keep them burning.
Any how, I am finally disgusted with this nasty habit, and it is no longer enjoyable for me. I think I will finally be able to quit, because quiet frankly, I feel like sheet at the end of the day. I quit drugs and booze almost three years ago, and I am hoping that this will be the final chapter in all of my bad habits from the past. Happy New Year to you all, and good luck in 2009!!

I've been a smoker for 6 years now. Tried quitting several times with the longest lasting a month but I always start up again. I've cut back (due to the cost and hard financial times actually, not health) to only about 2 packs a week.

And I have never heard of these fire safe cigarettes, but I have noticed that some cigarettes I buy now had seemed harder to keep lit. I just thought it was me. I never remember having to re-light a cigarette after it was lit until recently it has happened on more than just random occasion.

Good luck on your quitting. I found that when I stopped all together, I was mostly able to cope with cravings and that nervous twitch, and after a while started to physically feel better . Unfortunately my consumption of alcohol and winterfresh gum skyrocketed.

The paper is a special paper (LIP - Low Ignition Propensity) that will self extinguish. NY was one of the first states to require the new paper. Most other states are following suit.

Mj and I noticed this about when it came out. Ohio smokes burn good. PA smokes go out if unattended. When are they going to stop nannying us? I just may quit this time myself. Smokes here are $5.00 a pack anyway. I could buy a used 911 for what I spend every month. Maybe that will be my incentive.

I hope you can quit! It cannot be easy, but it would be the best thing you could do for yourself (and your loved ones). Good luck!

To all:
Best of luck on quitting!! I did it cold turkey 4 years, 2 months, and 25 days ago but who's counting. I am very proud of myself and my family is thrilled. It's the best thing I ever did for them and myself. As a 30 veteran Firefighter, every fatal fire I've been too was related to careless handling of smoking materials. So you will be living in a much safer environment. I applaud all your efforts it will be worth it!!!! As far as the technology check out the attached link, it should answer your questions.

they add stuff to keep them burning in the tobacco
so the chemical flavor must come from the paper

I roll my own and they do go out if left alone

Same thing out here in California. I heard it was the paper.
It kind of sucks, having to relight a smoke about half way through.
