I got a 5-gallon used Nato surplus from Cheaper than Dirt and a spout. Repainted it with bedliner and use it for gas for the motorcycle.

Looks like they still have the spout but not the can:

We've bought a couple from Army Surplus type stores (for our Jeep). Nice metal cans with a good spout. Make sure the spout is WITH the can before you buy it.

A tip for you Angela...on the Blitz can...if the spout gasket fails, use an old oil filter gasket...

thanks - Cheaper than Dirt seems out of them now

I had found one at Amazon - but the $50 + shipping seemed high

BTW - also found a stainless steel one for $150.... good for mil I guess.

Part of those federal "envrionmental" regs lawyers love, evidently.

However...here's what's available today.
http://www.blitzusa.com/products/fuel/Containment/5GMEF.html

Guess I'll hang on to my old one with the screw-on lid & spout...

Effective 01/01/09, all gas cans manufactured for sale in the U.S. must comply with CARB and EPA national regulations. The Spill-Proof and Self-Venting fuel containment lines have been discontinued for sale in the U.S. by Blitz U.S.A. and manufacturing has ceased. We are pleased to announce our new, CARB/EPA compliant fuel containment line - The Enviro-Flo fuel containment system. To learn more about the Enviro-Flo, please visit www.enviroflospout.com. For more information on regulations, you may visit www.pfcma.com for a full listing of regulatory websites and you may also reference the EPA Final Order for portable fuel containers.

ok by me.

I tried to order a can from Major Surplus, but their web site crapped out -- Wayne has figured out that the way to get people to buy your stuff is to make it easy.

I may wind up borrowing one from the neighbor. For a Sociology Prof. he has an amazing amount of redneck equipment. Even as a born 'n bred redneck, I am impressed.

The new "improved" gas cans they are now selling just piss me off. It easily doubles the time it takes to fill my riding lawnmower with a 5 gallon can. I ended up just poking a hole in the can where the vent used to be.

Randy, if Vinney has the spout, I'd jump on the offer! UPS couldn't be that bad from coast to coast.

I found the Stainless can you mentioned...looks cool. One would last a lifetime.

Man, I'm hanging on to ALL my old metal gas cans. Another shining example of a nanny government "improving" things until they are a PITA to use.

How is a ventless gas can supposed to protect us from ourselves?

I honestly don't get what difference it makes (other than inconvienence) and how this is possibly important enough for legislation or even administrative rules.

Yeah, wait until you can't find an incadescent light bulb...more nanny legislation that has passed, mandating the mercury containing flourescent stuff. I plan on spending a bundle on light bulbs soon...lay in a lifetime supply. The flourescent flicker triggers Cindy's migraines...

So, Byron are you trying to sabotage my thread?

Or are you such a witless little snit that you cannot control your venom and instead have to spew it all over in direct violation of the rules Wayne set up.

I think we should get together sometime and you can try calling me names to my face.
