OSU Beats OSU; Go Duckies & Pac 10
Great Game tonight!. OU Ducks dominated the OSU Cowboys in the second half (IMO).
Maybe the PAC 10 is not so weak after all... A GREAT night for Duck fans!!! Mike |
Bad title...
OSU BEAVERS U of O DUCKS OSU Beavers play tomorrow, sans the Rogers brothers...I'm predicting a Beavers loss. |
Doh!
|
Dat's okay...I often get confused about other 2 school states...
BTW, I have two teams I root for. The Beavers, and whoever is playing the Ducks. (edit) You see, the Ducks are a de facto pro team, owned by a guy with a $10.5 Billion net worth, Phil Knight. I won't have a pair of Nike shoes in my house. |
I love College Football and root for the whole dang PAC 10. I understand the Nike guy has pumped a boat load of money into OU, but that does not take anything away from the players. I still love to see them compete.
As a side note, Casey Matthews (#55) came on really strong at linebacker for the Ducks this year. His brother Clay, Jr. had a great season for the Trojans as well. You gotta root for kids like the Matthews Bros. They are genuinely intelligent, hardworking, good kids from a GREAT family. Mike |
I'll NEVER be a Ducks fan...this goes wayyyy back. OSU is the "blue collar cow college" school...U of O "The country club"....
|
I totally understand your point. But, the players are what really make up the team. Todd Doxey was not a wine and cheese type...
Mike |
Hey, it's tradition that goes wayyy back...to when it really was just students playing. Now, with recruitment from all over the world? Not the same...
|
Boy, have things changed for Beaver football. I am glad to see them doing so well. I can remember watching games where the highlight was seeing some Beaver player singing the National Anthem in the stands before the game (wtf) .
I think those days are gone for the Beavers. They are a totally legitimate contender now. And, with 3 more years of Jacquiz (sp), things are indeed looking rosey for the Beavers (no pun intended). |

Paul - you will no doubt be excited to hear that an OSU professor (and former mentor of mine) will be the future head of NOAA. |
C' mon Oregonians!!! The Ducks had a great Knight! Don't let the Nike guy spoil it.

Ahhh, the great Knight Phil...and his knave, the clever Bellotti... |
I was going to wait for a few more days to post about this, but the cat's out of the bag so to speak.
People have been bagging on the PAC10 all season. They don't play anyone, it's a weak coference, they get too much press they don't deserve, over-rated etc. Arizona beat a higher ranked BYU. Oregon beat a higher ranked oklahoma state. Cal beat up on the hurricanes. The big "U" LOL. Things could change, Oregon state could lose to a higher ranked Pitt, USC could lose to penn state but that is unlikely. Wasn't penn state ranked in the top 2 or three most of the season? It is very possible that the PAC10 could go 5-0 in bowl games this year, with 4 of the wins against higher ranked teams. I bet the PAC10 haters would really hate that ;) |

Come on you are going to tell me the PAC10 is strong because they beat BYU the 3rd place team in the mountain west, the 4th place team in the big 12, beat an absolutely terrible Miami team, and could possibly win a home game against Penn State coming from a weak big 10 this season as well as the 2nd place big east team. I don't mean any offense on this, I just don't think these are HUGE upset wins that should suprise anyone, except the win last night. |

you mean "all decade," or "for many decades" The reason is likely b/c most sports writers or whatever are East Coast types. I will say tho, that I particularly want god to beat USC. |

I'm saying that 5 of the 10 PAC10 teams are playing in bowl games, and 4 of the 5 will most likely beat teams that are ranked higher. AP, BCS, whatever. It is very possible that all 5 of the PAC10 teams in bowl games will win, against opponents that are ranked higher or in the case of the "church of the holy paterno", were ranked significantly higher for much of the season. BYU was ranked 17th which was higher than Arizona. At one time during this season BYU was ranked 8th IIRC, around weeks 5, 6 and 7. That's a BCS thing. If you don't think much of BYU then take it up with the BCS. OK state was ranked higher than Oregon. Going back to week 8, OK state was ranked 6th. If you think Penn state isn't very good, fine. But why were they ranked so high for most of the season if they are so easy to beat? How in the world did they end up 11-1 if beating them isn't that big of a deal? Penn State was ranked #3 in the nation (higher than USC, Oklahoma, and Florida at the time btw) in weeks 7, 8, 9, and 10 and were in the top 10 all year. If their conference is weak, and they only took 2nd place in their conference, how could they possibly end up ranked so high for so long? How could they be ranked that high if they aren't very good as you say, unless they were over-rated? How could they be ranked higher than USC for so long unless Penn state was over-rated and USC was under-rated? That's my point. The PAC 10 is doing better so far than their rankings said they should. They are beating teams that were ranked higher. I am saying that those who love to put down ther PAC 10 and say it is over-rated are wrong and I am providing facts to back up my assertion. BTW, the rose bowl is not a home game for USC. USC plays home games in the Los Angeles colliseum, not the Pasadena rose bowl. UCLA pays their home games at the rose bowl. I can see how it could seem like a home game for USC as they win the rose bowl so often. |
NO kudos to the offense without the Rogers Brothers...But...in my prejudiced opinion, the Beavers were robbed of a touchdown by a bad call.
A HUGE tip of the hat to the Beavers defense...they dominated line play. Final score: Oregon State Beavers 3, Pitt zero. Another one for the PAC 10. On to the Rose Bowl...keep in mind, USC can be beaten. The Beavers, who were creamed by Penn State, proved that... |
4-0 for the PAC 10!
Great job you feisty Beavers!!! Sammy: Very well written and right on the money. Too bad USC is not playing in the title game after all. Apparently, they DID play some tough teams in conference. The Beavers, Ducks, and Wildcats proved that. I am lovin that West Coast College Football thang! Mike |
West coast rules...SEC drools...but the East Coast press will never admit that...never!
