Not fancy, unless we're talking about Masa or the like.
My favorite sushi bar here in Seattle is a little family run place. The father and son take turns behind the bar, mom cooks, daughter waits tables. Certainly not fancy, though if we're in the mood for something different the son will slip us a "yuppie fusion roll" as long as we don't let his dad see it. Sometimes you really just need a huge beast of a roll with all sorts of fish and fried stuff inside. |
You guys have got to try the barbequed unagi (eel), mouth-watering.....
joshu-ya in berkeley is delicious, and reasonable |

I think it's hard to dislike Shiro's. All the food I've eaten there was excellent. Most people I know think the dining room is too sterile, and I would tend to agree.
Tsukushinbo is more of a country-style place, with a slightly smaller, simpler menu and a more casual, friendly, cozy atmosphere. It's the kind of place you go with a few friends, order more food and sake than you think you need, and unwind. It's a bit like Maneki (just around the corner) but with better food and no Yelpers. Now I feel like I'm talking it up too much... Quote:
