I hereby retract all previous negative comments about flat panel HDTV's
Jeebus Effing Christobal the picture on my new Samsung is un-freaking-real!
Stunning, just stunning. Can't get over it. And the best part is glare, which was a big problem in our house full o' windows, is considerably less with this thing. |
Yep, I got a Samsung LCD a little before Christmas. Pretty amazing!
Which one did you get? Is it 1080i?
plasma or lcd? i have both..i prefer the plasma...the lcd is great, but you really need to dial the color in on them
I'm waiting till after the conversion ... I'm hoping with the economy and the competition the prices will hit rock bottom.
I agree for the most part... just got a newer 1080P set.
I think there are still a few bugs, each set having their own. On mine the particular thing is that the 120hz seems to do nothing for 1080i, and only works properly with a 1080p signal. I have a receiver that upscales, so it's fine, but it would have had to go back otherwise. No "soap-opera effect" like I've seen on some sets with the super duper 120hz and motion enhancers turned way up thankfully. But reruns / regular TV do still look better on the old Sony tube TV. Once everything looks at good as the local news though, I'm more than sold. |
I find it very difficult to watch anything that is not HD.
Yeah, we have a 50"plasma in our home theater, but for the bedroom we have a 32" Samsung LCD. Mrs. Ruf prefers to watch her chick flicks in our bedroom, while I like viewing manly flicks on the 50 with 5.1 digital surround. My daughter loves watching Sponge Bob on the 50" instead of the 19" LCD that is in her room.
It is for the reasons set forth above that the MRM household has a single 27 inch color TV in the living room.
Watching the Vikings lose in HD was awsome! ;)
I just like being able to hang a little square on the wall as opposed to a big ass box somewhere. I always hated the requirement for a huge entertainment center that dominated the room. Our living room TV hangs above the fireplace and mantle, it simply blends in with the room.
i went from a beat down 20" TV set onto an old aquarium stand as my only TV to a 47" sony LCD. my head almost melted down the first time out.
the only downside is the transitor radio sounding speakers...just another trip to the electronic store. |
Another Samsung 52 inch 1080P 120mhz, yada blada owner here. We got the dish upgrade to hd at the same time. Watching HD channels then having to go to standard is like going from from a 27hp VW to a 735hp 935 in sensory perception.
Yup we switched to the HD cable box immediately as well. I have no idea what programming has been on the non-HD channels over the past few days.
Got the LN46A650 and i've done nothing with the setup other than rename the inputs (how cool is that!). Have HDMI cables from monoprice.com coming in tomorrow. Paid $19 TOTAL with shipping for 3 6' cables. Hooked up the old surround sound as well and now use it for all tv audio (rather than just for movies). The Sammy tv speaker is horribly inadequate. |
BTW recently recorded 'Mille Miglia' special on Discovery HD (that darn channel is better than Speed!) and have watched a bit of it. Very very cool!
Got Blu-Ray?
Blue Ray here. We got the new hdmi surround system at the same time. Sounds amazing.
haven't done the blue-ray thing yet. probably wait till fathers day or some other event for that.
I heard that the xbox is blue-ray...is that right?
no, the sony PS3 is.
