machine shop bill queston

Well I took my head in to take a look at. Ends up 4 bent exhaust and 4 guides bent. Anyways he calls today to confirm what needs to be replaced., and permission to preform the work. Bill as stated.

100.00 for the valve job
68.12 for four exhaust valves
28.00 for guides
30.00 for guides R & R

For a complete estimate for $240.00. What i'm wondering is; why is he charging me for the guides to be removed, and replace? I would think that would be included in the valve job, no? Anyways it not like i don't have the money it's just that i was only expecting to pay only around $200.

Valve job is usually just maching/lapping in the seats.

Was this the 944? I think you did extremely well!

Agreed, a standard valve job is to only redo the valve faces and seats. Anything else is extra. Sounds cheap to me. $17/valve, HAH, you have no idea how cheap that is for ANY vehicle.

yeah, the early cat. those valves are dirt cheap, I couldn't even get used for under $75.

Cheapest head job evar

I am assuming you are having 911 heads done. You are getting off cheap. I had my heads done, along with a lot of other total rebuild work done, German Precision in San Jose. Total costs for all new valve guides and and 3 face valve job was $600. Their work was totally beautiful and worth every penny.

A cheap 911 basic head job is ~$750 at a minimum. I know yours has only 4 heads, but that is still very cheap.

From our host's catalog:

944-104-328-51-M105 Intake/Exhaust Valve Guide, 1st Replacement, 924S/944/Turbo, As Needed, Each
Brand: Canyon [Photo] [Photo]

$5.75

928-105-410-04-M154 Exhaust Valve, 924S (1987-88), 944 (1983-88), As Needed, Each
Brand: Intervalves

$43.75

So, I see $23 for guides and $175 for valves, with no work.

You did very very well!
