Craig's list score! Snap-on tool box!
I could never justify the cost of the Snap-on tool boxes, that is until this one popped up on Craig's list the other day. The guy just posted this box right before I started looking at the tools list. Listed it for $500 for a quick sale as he was in a tight spot with the bank holding his home and about to loose it. It was sitting outside under a covered porch, but exposed to the sun, and the moisture. So it needed some freshening up in the paint department! After a good pressure washing and some sanding, it is red again. Stands 66" tall and is 53" wide. Should have enough room for my tools now, as the two smaller craftsman boxes I have are overflowing! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1231300854.jpg

Good score! Forgot to mask off the wheels??:D
|
Wow, great deal.
Want to make an easy $20? :) |
NICE. Lucky SOB. What does that run new, $6k or so?
|
NICE DEAL! You just saved about 80 or even 90% vs retail. :)
That's easily a $4k dollar setup new(could even be more, been ages since i checked snap on box pricing). I had a matco box myself when i used to turn wrenches. Sold it for about half what i paid for it. I think i got about $1500.00 for it. This was about 10 years ago. |
Nice buy. That is the only way to buy snap on tool boxes, unless you have mad cash. I bought my box new in 1999 for $12000.00. Two years later, I bought the same model used for $2200. They are nice boxes, and will last a lifetime, but There is no way you can justify the price new. I have been shopping for another ( for home use), and there are deals out there. especiallly now.

I thought I was getting good deals at the pawn shop. Nice paint job.

nice box...i got one similar a few years ago for 1300...mine is a newer style, but that one is alot bigger..good score
I suspect that there will be alot of these as dealers close and the economy circles towards our enivitable depression |
Searching CL now.........
|
rattlsnak (Mark),
Don't spend too much time searching. I've been looking on CL for a toolbox deal for a long time. |

Bro! What's up with the red casters? Mix in some masking tape next time! Ha ha! ;)
Nice score and the after pic looks fantastic! |
That is a truly awesome score.
Here's my CL score from today: Porsche engine yoke and a Belzer bench adapter. $!50. Doesn't even come close to your %retail, though! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1231393744.jpg |
Fudge! I thought I got a good deal on a stainless box that was less than a year old and hardly used. I paid $600 for a 41" (?) wide box that is about 66" tall. It was such a good deal (or at least I thought), I got the wife's stamp of approval!
|
Thanks guys, I got everything changed over and the box into its resting spot in the shop. Even cleaned up the wheels of the overspray! I need a step to see into the top, an I am 6' tall!! Now I have to do a full shop cleanup and rearrange.

She was hotter than a two dollar pistol she was the fastest thing around.....lol Great score!

OK - I scored my deal yesterday! The owner bought these in 78 when he was 16 years old. There were some misc tools in some of the drawers and the owner told me to just keep them. I was looking for an inexpensive toolbox that I could clean up, repaint, restore. I've got a bathroom repaint project that I have to finish up first, then I'll work on these.

Here's the after picture of the above toolbox. It's taken over 2 years as a part time project to get it finished.

I remember when my Snap-On box was new. :( I have a KR-1000 with the matching side box. I bought it back around 1986 or 1987. Between the purchase of the box, side box, and tools to fill it, I think I may have personally financed my Snap-On dealers childrens college education.
Nice restoration there MBAtarga. Maybe if I am ever able to retire I'll restore mine. |
i have a KR 1000 also, but with a matching top and two side boxes! Also bought it in @ 87!

Wow, Mark - that tool box looks GREAT!
Are you sure about the year? I knew you said the PO bought it in 1978, but that emblem style - any chance it's older than that? I don't know when they changed that emblem (print style) but it seems like I've seen that on pretty old boxes. It would be cool if it were even older than 1978. Also a fan of MAC boxes. One of my friends (yes, a woman) has an absolutely exquisite teal blue MAC box. I told her it gives me Tool Box Envy! :D angela |
Angela,
The model/serial number and mfr date are engraved on the back of each piece - and shows 1978 as the year. |
mark,
that looks fantastic!! |
Very nice!

Collecting Snap-on Using that source, I found that the "old" snap-on 1/2 drive that we picked up at a yard sale just because it looked cool is a 71-M - made 1950 to 1965. Not as old as I had hoped, but still a pretty cool ratchet. angela |
Excellent!!

Edge Trim for Snap On KR500 & 550B
Hello everyone, great restorations. I have come across one of these gems myself and I am in the process of restoring it but need to replace the edge trim, any ideas where I can source it?
Thank you |
