My new toy (not creepy)

Well I guess some people might think it is creepy, a 47 year old woman sitting at her desk using this:

That's a Logitech Momo, like this (it also has pedals, not shown):

People keep telling me that skills honed with simulated racing actually DO transfer somewhat to real driving. Starting from literal zero as I am, I figure I can use all the help I can get. I went over to a friend's house and got to try out a totally pimped out rig with a massive display, real racing seat, like a car game in an arcade. It was sooooooooooo much fun! And if it'll help me get my head around things faster, all the better. My friend is going to help me out by loading up some extra tracks & cars (for GTR).

Anybody else out there dabble in sim racing?

I really like GT4 on PS2.

I used to play NFS Porsche unleashed for hours on end over at my cousins using a nice wheel like yours.

Loved it, but then i got the 928 and it sort of lost some of the appeal. Hehehe.

Cool shirt. I'm not sure what it means, but that's what makes it cool, IMO.

Okay, some guesses. Does it have to do with:

1) Geeks?
2) The Band "KISS"?
3) Kissimmee, Florida?

BTW: the driving toys are cool, too.

Looks like a lot of fun, Kathy!

I suppose you really are a car guy. :)

The only other adult woman that know would appreciate that is probably the Swedish rally driver Tina Törner. Currently the 'map reader' in the Safari rally.

I have loved the Gran Turismo series with a passion. But I bought an xbox360 just for forza 2. I made an arena red 930 just like mine! (also have a mirror image of my Corrado, and my brothers R32 on that game too :D)

I may just have to drop in on the local driver geekfest known as 24 HOURS OF SIMTONA (to run concurrently with 24 Hours of Daytona, in case that's not obvious) and take a picture of this guy's rig(s).

Awesome. I've had one of those wheels for several years now. Well worth the investment. I'd eventually like to upgrade to the Momo with the clutch, too, but there's a lot of other things that are more important right this instant.

Enjoy!

I was very heavily into online racing sims for 8 years starting in the mid 90's. Raced in weekly leagues for small purses and prizes, but mostly bragging rights. Dale Earnhardt Jr and Donny Lia (Craftsman Truck driver) we among my competitors.

I never owned a racing pod, but many did. I guess just like real racing, the best equipment can get you an edge. Here is the latest greatest simulated. It's not cheap! Too bad he's racing an oval. He could get motion sick on a road course. ;)
