Favorite Blackberry 3rd Party Apps.
What's your favorite tool/toy/etc for your crackberry? I just picked up an AT&T Bold and am curious what is "out there". Mine:
Opera Mini - internet browser, better than standard BB browser and free. Google Maps - awesome tool, even better with integrated GPS. Absolutely invaluable when traveling. Free. FlyCast - free internet radio, organized by genre. |
Matt
I looked at Flycast and put it on my laptop, what do you do to put it on your BB ? |
Hugh, all I had to do was go to their website from my BB and download it. Nothing to it. It's flycast.fm.
|
+1 on Google maps - excellent piece of software for the BB.

went to flycast.fm with my Verizon BB and clicked on it and it says I'm missing some modiules. Oh well.

Cell phone, texting and email. That's it.
My kid has all kinds of stuff on his BB, I dont get it? I can see a GPS, but there's like 3 stop lights where I live and 2 stop signs where my son lives. How tough can it be to find your way around? I like my custom rings for people though. |

Hugh, I'm on AT&T. Maybe Verizon blocks it for some reason. I know they block some other things because they want to sell you similar services. |
Timely post. I just got a BlackBerry Storm and was looking for other applications!! Many thanks. The flycast loaded right up and works great.

Nextel released an 8350i that I wanna check out. I have a hard time buying these things before I get a chance to play with them.

8830 here with Global SIM & it works like a charm everywhere. Except Vegas during CES when it went into distress mode. I have Bell Mobility (Canada, eh) & they partner with Verizon. I was getting text messages up to 24 hours late! I was not amused.
Opera Mini makes it finally usable for some browsing. Still slow though but at least you can navigate & zoom in to read etc. Google maps has never been usable - it never finds sats but I don't pay extra for GPS services. But I'll try again. The built in maps (BB Maps?) always (well, mostly) works but . . . But I hate cells & mine is an appliance & not a toy. Although I did load Italian language lessons on it to fill in some hotel nights. Ian |

Actually, my BB has been great for text. This was 28th floor of the Hilton & reception swung back & forth from max to min wildly. As you would expect, a CES (Consumer Electronics Show) has a lot of techno nerds & so airwaves usage maxs.
My battery use also sunk dramatically from days to hours. Other guys BBs were fine - with other carriers . . . Ian |

Hey Hugh, Go to Blackberry's upgrade page and update the OS to your BB. I thought I had updated my BB a couple of weeks ago, but apparently I had only updated the desktop software. Upgrading unlocked the video camera function and allowed me to install Fycast. . eware theough that upgrading will take a good hour. |
This thread prodded me to meander over to blackberryforums.com. I upgraded my RIM software (supposedly fixes a connection issue) & I found a post about a new app.
Inform "inForm for BlackBerry allows you to quickly create and distribute Forms, Surveys, Databases, and Micro-Applications™ for the BlackBerry." This $50 app will let the user develop a simple database with a seemingly great interface. It will also allow you to pull & manipulate data that is housed in your PC database. I use a self-developed custom MS Access database for contact management & this should let me take it all with me on my BB . . . This might be really, really cool . . . Ian |
