Omaha Steaks

This has probably been covered before.

Each holiday season we all get a gift certificate to Omaha Steaks... and like the lemming I am, I use it and am disappointed as usual.

This year I use my gift certificate to get a complete dinner for four..

4 Filet Mignon
4 Stuffed taters
"Roasted veggie medly"

The steak is meh... just ok.... taters ok

gimme a break with frozen veggies though... blech...

I've been trying to diplomatically tell the guy I work for that Omaha Steaks really are not that good.....

Why would you order potatoes and veggies from a steak place? I have had their stuff, nothing to write home about. Costco has them beat. If nothing else, I like to see the cut of meat before I buy it.

I ordered the complete meals because I have previously ordered the filet alone, and the samplers and have received the same supermarket quality beef. Always disappointed with the product...

It is free though!!

I found out from my bro, that they don't even rate the meat according to FDA? standards i.e. select , choice, prime...

Give the certificate to a homeless person, soup kitchen, or needy family in your neighborhood. Then everyone wins.

I agree, the meat has bad texture. I always trade my meat for anyones au gratin spuds that used to come with the order.

I liked the spuds way more than those bacon wrapped rawhide chews.

Just as a side note, most of us in Omaha don't buy Omaha Steaks. Lots of better butchers around - if you're familiar with Omaha, there's a small, neighborhood grocery store called Wohlner's that sells the best steaks in town - they cut them fresh for you at the store. Just about the best steaks I've had anywhere.

Funny, the best steak I had in the area was at 360 (Harrah's) in Council Bluffs, and it was OK. I'm still looking around for a killer steak in this town.

I agree that mail order Omaha steak stuff sucks. Previously frozen grocery store quality.

Oh, another favorite. Was just in Vegas and my folks live down the street from an In and Out.

I ate there like 3 days out of 4...

Bought Omaha once or twice. I think they're very, very expensive for what you get.

We have recently been getting Top Sirloin instead of Filet Mignon from Omaha. They are much tastier!

+1 on Costco meat. Prices are reasonable (even though tri-tip has gone thru the roof) and the taste is great.

The only meat we buy at our local Stater-Bros anymore is the bulk bacon - best I've ever eaten.

When you freeze meat, it wrecks it.

If you want good steak out in Omaha, you've got to hit one of the old steakhouses like Anthony's or Johnny's (if you've seen the movie About Schmidt, he's eating at Johnny's for his retirement party).
