If thats a canadian f-18 then it's one of those wacky all purpose ones. Forgot the specific name, but they aren't used for naval operations. Wonder if it still comes with a tailhook?

I totally wish I was that kid. Lucky, he has such a great dad.

Yep, F/A-18 it is! I worked on these things as an airframes and hydraulics mechanic for 20 years while I was in the Corps.

July 31, 1991, a day I will remember very well. Got to go for a backseat ride in an F/A-18D. 1.4 hours of bouncing of the clouds at 30 - 40 thousand feet over the Pacific Ocean is really quite a rush!

wow! lucky you. every year i look foward to either the blue angels or thunderbirds coming to town. prefer the blue angels cause the f-16 just doesnt do it for me the same way....F/A-18 pulling straight up vertical and climbing is the BEST sound i have ever heard on this earth. the sound of the heavens opening up

i took my mom this year, who could give a crap and had NO idea what to expect...when the jet snuck up from behind all silent and then went rrooooooaaaarrrrr a hundred feet over our heads and the pulled straight up towards the sun, i could see her hair stand up on her head. she was like, "oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!!!" hahahah awsome memory i shall cherish

took this last summer

The jet in your pic is an F-15. Another fine piece of military equipment!

Here are some shots of Hornets to compare. Note the placement and shape of the rear horizontal stabilators and the shape of the intakes. The older F/A-18s (A/B/C and D models) have rounded intakes. The newer, Super-Hornets (E and F models) are larger in overall size and do have squared intakes, similar to the F-15.

I flew that bad arse airplane for a few years. Not the fastest jet in the inventory, but it's fast enough that you can see the back of your own head when you're flying it.

I love the Canadian version with the false canopy painted on the bottom

I thought this was what the excitement was:

The hornet is cool. My dad flew them along with eagles and phantoms at Mac in the 70s and 80s. I got to fly the simulator once, which was...befuddling.

He was pretty thrilled with his personal guided tour! It was a pretty tough climb to get up into it for him as it was damp out. He really liked the night vision goggles too!

I've got two I am using today for some trianing/fam purposes. Unfortuanetly they need to go do a comm check out near where his school is.... what bad luck!!

Cheers
