81 targa, In Mass-Carmine Red, over black -8k

Above is the title of a 1/14/09 post in "Porsche Cars for Sale". Am I the only one scratching my head about this car. Low mileage, total history known, a ton of obvious quality work done to the car, a solidly believable and "stand up" seller in Adam. Priced at not much more than the value of the interior and wheels @ 8K. Is this not a stone steal? If this were within a 1000 miles of me I'd be off like a prom dress.

Why is this car still available? Does someone know something about this car or Adam they'd like to share? I don't know Adam at all but, unless I'm missing something, the car AND the seller seem to be suffering a serious lack of love. WASSUP?

Seriously.

Garage
Discretionary spending. No one has the money to buy toys. Plus it is a 28 year old car.

Let's see ... 145k on a C4; 33k on a rebuild, rough interior, suspect paint ...

If your point was the C4 is superior to the 30somethingK original mile '81 Targa, I'm not so sure I'd buy the conclusion.

Has to be more to this. Anyone know the car? Anyone know Adam?

Sign of the times, IMHO. If all is as presented it's a good deal for sure, but times are tough... plenty of smokin' deals out there.

Listed for $13,500 in August
Dropped to $10,500 in October
Dropped to $8,000 in January

I don't have any expertise with the air cooled P-cars, but in the water cooled world I'd rather see a 25 year old car with 200k on the odo, a recent rebuild and good mechanicals than a 25 year old car with 30k on the original engine and a recent repaint.

Did you go with a woman that looked like Ernest Borgnine?

I saw his last car, and almost bought it. My wife spoke to him about this car, and it seems pretty OK, esp. for the price. I am still thinking about taking a drive to look at it.

Why don't you call him ?
