Anybody been to the Chili Bowl in Tulsa? 2009 National Midget Championship...

A friend/client just suprised me with tickets/pit passes/plane tickets/rental car/hotel for the 2009 Chili Bowl...indoor midget championship in Tulsa third week in January. He's an engineer who has worked on the design of a variety of chassis and engines....so we'll be hanging in the pits most of the time.

Looks like a hoot...anybody ever been?

Been three times. It's great, you'll have a good time. Trying to get there myself this year if work slows down.

Is it in one of the buildings at the fairgrounds?

It's awesome! Be sure to bring a painters mask to wear or your going to have some knarly bugers the next day from the dust!

I had never been to a national midget race....this was an amazing event. I was shocked at the sheer number of entries (nearly 300), the level of competition, the sophistication ofthe cars, the level of fabrication, driver talent, yadadadadada. The organizers had it running like clockwork with very few delays for literally hundreds of heat races culminating in the finale on Saturday night. Many notable racers didn't make the main event (Kasey Kahne, Pendregon, Jason lefler) and a wiley old veteran won the thing (Sammy Swindell).

They Have gun shows in that same building. I went to one that literally was wall to wall on both levels.
