Mac Wireless cameras?

Firstly is this in the right forum, it seemed the place most Mac questions seemed posted...

Now, I moved from a PC to mini-mac about three years ago,
for what I need
browsing/music etc it seems really reliable that said, there are quite a few things which on a PC I took for granted like image manipulation, which I cant (as easilly) access.

Now what I would like to replicate is this,

a small security camera on the garage and viewed in a small window alongside whatever I have open.

formerly:
Wireless camera>USB connected receiver>PC

do generic cameras work with any USB receiver, and its then the software that runs THAT receiver that I can't find for my Mac

I was pointed towards these people but I'm not sure what I'm looking at

Plenty of Image manipulation apps. Paid and free. What is the extent of image manipulation that you are looking to achieve?

Webcam, have you tried simply plugging it in?

What make, model, brand was/is the USB receiver?

Little bit more info and we can find you a solution.
