I've never been a stock market player, but I remember when the first iMac came out (the bondi blue capsule with the round mouse) the stock was 18 bucks or something hideous like that, and I thought I should buy some. (didn't.) Since then, there have been dozens of new products introduced, most of them big hits in the marketplace.

Apple "gets it"; consumers have caught on and the stock price reflects it.

Apple owns consumer entertainment in ways that other goliaths (Microsoft?) can't even comprehend; Apple has some weird futurevision, other tech companies seem to merely react.
How long will it last? Who knows, not forever, but they are riding the gravy train now.

cl8ton 10-19-2009 07:32 PM

Apple’s hypocrisy is only beginning with the iPhone and App Store shenanigans, the backlash has begun and the stock will eventually reflect it
They are guilty of the very tactics they accused MS of during that Superbowl ad back in the day!

Jobs is genius, Gates is god! My money is with MS for the long haul!

I'm so glad Cramer got smoked after hours today. Maybe he will walk away from this stock for awhile. He was really starting to worry me. I wanted to sell all of my AAPL when he raised his targets last month. Volume was heavy today. I guess a lot of people sold off before the rally at the end of the day. Can't wait to see what it does for the rest of the week.

Jim Bremner 10-19-2009 07:46 PM

I was treated poorly at an apple store with regards to a warranty on my 1 year old ipod.

I will N E V E R spend one thin dime with them.

Shuie 11-04-2009 07:00 PM

Okay, I'm out. Sold all of my AAPL last week. Good luck to everyone else who has stayed in.

Not to hijack, but is anyone betting on CAT these days? I think I missed the boat on it.

rennch 11-04-2009 08:30 PM

How'd you do, Shuie?

jkarolyi 11-05-2009 03:34 PM

Me too...bought at 80.15 about when Wayne did, sold at $191 when I thought the market had peaked (went to $205!). Just wish I had invested more than a mere $5,000. ;)

Not as well as Jay or Wayne, but good enough for me. Bought at ~$140 last year and rode it down. Bought again at ~$104 on the way back up. Held for the year and sold everything I had at ~$193. Probably not the smartest way to do it, but oh well.

Lets see, 79.00 to 203.00. Please post any other ideas.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1264473608.jpg this is the reason I'm staying in!?

widgeon13 01-26-2010 03:01 AM

One year target is $238 and other than the fiasco of last Oct when everything went in the ****ter it seems to have done quite well, why sell?

+1 on Enzo, here...

I got out before (arounf $150, I know, I know), but I'm getting back in... The tablet is going to make a lot of $$$ for apple and change how we use computers. I know I want one for "downstairs" instead of a laptop... Internet at my fingertips, on a giant Iphone in essence...

widgeon13 02-01-2010 02:49 AM

I see lack of immediate availability as a consumer frustration, it's like having to wait for Christmas to open the presents, but still like the stock.

It would also appear, after watching this recession, that people seem to be addicted to their cell phones and services and probably would give up food (well, eating out) prior to giving up their cell phone.

Thoughts?

Buy on rumor, sell on facts.

And as far as the cell phones are concerned, yep. I don't know how we lived without. When my 81 yr old father doesn't go anywhere without a cell phone, something has changed in the culture.

iPad and Apple's world domination

Shuie 02-01-2010 07:01 AM

I'm glad I sold mine in Nov.. The roller coaster ride that AAPL has been on since breaking $200 has made me quiver even as a non-owner spectator.

I know it really took a beating last week, but I still like CAT a lot.

The Verizon dividend is awesome. Does the iPhone work on their network yet?

WTH is BRK.B at ~$76 right now? Did they do a 40:1 split?

enzo1 02-01-2010 07:32 AM

my dad owns cat, bought it at 55, went to 64, back down to 52, he calls it a "roller coaster" too, the trick with cat is the housing business needs to get better, then when it does steel needs to stay cheap, and aren't they building a factory in China? .. cats ok, if highway stimulus work comes in.... most companies fire people to reduce overhead & make earnings, Appl is hiring, the fundementals haven't changed for apple, just the rumors which allow short selling: Steve Jobs getting cancer.... he looked good on stage.... I still like the stock of course i bought the stock @ 75-120

techweenie 02-01-2010 07:47 AM

Rumors have been rife about the iPhone being made available on the Verizon network. There is also known to be a new revision of the iPhone software in testing now -- that doesn't make a new iPhone a certainty, but a strong possibility for 2Q '10.

AT&T shut down sales of iPhones in Manhattan several weeks ago because usage overwhelmed their infrastructure and caused a rash of dropped calls (30%, it's reported). That has to be a violation of the AT&T/Apple SLA.

Jobs won't tolerate that for long, and if AT&T doesn't clean up its act, he may well allow other carriers. I'd be hesitant to invest in ATT, but Verizon may be an okay bet.

red-beard 02-01-2010 08:59 AM

Interesting. TW, any idea if the issue is system wide, or only centered in NYC?

I'm about to switch to AT&T, mostly for the 3G GSM service.

AFAIK, it's only been reported in NYC. The Apple Store in Manhattan was completely upfront about it, so ask at your local Apple store and you'll probably get a straight answer for your service area.

I have occasional dropped call issues in Los Angeles. Not enough to make me change phones.

I'm not getting an iPhone. I want 3G service for my Palm Pro.

1. NO the iphone doesn't work with verizon yet. The day it does I imagine Apple's stock will soar. I for one have been holding out on re-upping my contract with Verizon in hopes of being able to use my new every 2 years to get an Iphone..

2. BRK.B split as part of the deal doing the Burlington Northern Purchase. Buffett wanted small investors to get the same deal as large investors. So if you had 100shares of BNF you get the same deal as the firm with 100,000.

enzo1 02-01-2010 11:36 AM

i'm interested in BRK.b ..... don't like ge though .... & BNI will be alright until they open up panama canal revisions in 2014?

enzo1 02-01-2010 12:03 PM

There is a new rumor by China Times( which got the Ipad right), that apple is coming out with a 22" imac touch screen..... SJ did say they were going to have a strong lineup.....+ ipad, 4.0 iphone, apple sold 90% of all computers in USA above 1000$

masraum 06-18-2010 12:48 PM

Wish I'd followed Wayne's lead. Apl stock is more than double what it was a year ago.

Always a day late and a dollar short.

Garp 09-19-2011 12:36 PM

All time high.

Quote:

Apple shares finished the day at 411.63, up 2.8%, despite a widespread selloff everywhere else (although the Nasdaq was fairly well-behaved).

That’s a new all-time closing high for Apple stock and just the third close above $400.

Dubious comparison time! Apple is now easily the biggest US company by market cap, at $381.6 billion, compared with Exxon Mobil’s $358.3 billion.

And if market cap were GDP, Apple would have one of the world’s thirty-biggest economies, on par with Austria, Argentina and South Africa.

But of course market cap is not GDP. It’s just a vote of faith that, come recession, apocalyptic European meltdown or high water, people will buy iPhones in the fall.

Can you plot that vs. the ETF GLD?
