Used Cayennes - Known issues? Reliability?

Looking for some input on reliability of 2005 - on Cayennes. I quickly looked through rennlist forum and a lot of them seem to have minor electrical issues - but then again, what new car doesn't have electrical issues these days?

Any real world data on fuel economy, reliability and such would be appreciated. What components typically fail on higher mileage (100k+ miles) cars? Is the extra power in the "S" worth losing a couple MPGs over the base model?

Oh and are there any other active forums for Cayennes?

Thanks! :)

A used Toureg is a hell of a lot less money for 95% of the same vehicle.

Just sayin'...

Yeah but it's not a PORSCHE

HAve seen many used ones in the 20's. I'd much rather own the VW with the larger engine. (although I don't want an SUV to begin with).

I bet yanking the drivetrain out of one and sticking it into a 928 chassis would go like stink though... :D

If you wanted to futz with all that electronics crap - which I wouldn't.

I have ridden in both the base model and the S quite a bit, and I feel that the V8 is necessary for that SUV. The only thing that would change my mind on that is if you really wanted to have the manual transmission, which is only available with the V6

I've heard they're very troublesome- particularly prone to electrical problems. My son in law is a technican for VW and says the same thing about the Toureag.

Data point.

4 years ago I owned a Volkswagon. It was giving me huge problems. So on my THIRD $800 trip to the dealer in 3 months (yeah, never again.....), I was at the cashiers window getting cashed out. I commented that I was thinking of getting rid of the car, perhaps trading it in on a Toureg.

It was like I had pulled the needle across the record, full stop. The two cashiers looked at me, and one mouthed dramatically, "NO!". We talked a bit, and these gal described them as a nightmare. They should know!

I have heard nothing but bad from the few Toureg owners that I know whereas the only Cayenne owner (S model) has only positive comments.
