DMV Rant!

So I picked up a form from the DMV a few weeks ago.

I fill it out and according to the wording at the bottom I can either submit to my local DMV office or mail it in to the address provided.

I figured things would 'move faster' if I took it in with my $5 fee.

Napa Dmv is known to be one of the best/fastest offices in the state and thing usually go well in there. Not today.

I wait in line for about 15 minutes until my turn to start the process.
I tell the guy I want to submit my completed form and pay my fee.
he says he doesn't know if they can do that. HUH? I show him on the bottom of the from that it is my option to walk it in or mail it.

He gives me a waitng ticket and tell me to go sit down until the next available 'technician ' can answer my question:mad:

I sit and wait for another 15 minutes until my number is called. Here's where the madness begins! I am routed BACK to the desk of the original guy!! I actually said to his face "you've got to be kidding me?. I waited just SO I could come back and talk to you?"
He gets up and takes my form to 'someone', comes back and says, "no we can't do that here".

I show him ON THE FORM where it clearly states that I CAN.
He fumbles around on the keyboard, picked up his cell phone like he was going to call for back-up and finally agreed to accept my form.

Then I say, "aren't you going to take my $5?"

He was fumbling and bumbling again. I thought he was going to try and make change for my $20 out of his own wallet.

I should have just mailed it!!

Just rest easy, knowing he's not your kids' teacher. Or a Cop. Seriously.

Isn't it nice to know the private sector fires people like us and the public sector keeps dolts like this on the public payroll?

Unreal. No wonder we'll all be speaking Mandarin in 20 years.

pwd72s 01-21-2009 05:51 PM

Oh yeah...I learned long ago that if I can deal with the DMV by mail...I deal by mail.

glewis80SC 01-21-2009 05:56 PM

Trekkor,
I feel your pain!!! DMV has to be the worst run agency on the planet. I could rant for hours on all their stupidity I've had to deal with, I and many others feel your pain.

Porsche-O-Phile 01-21-2009 05:58 PM

#1 reason to get an AAA membership.

This is the first time in many, many years I haven't renewed (just because of finances). In normal times, the annual fee is well worth it just to not have to deal with the imbiciles (on both sides of the counter) at the DMV office.

If I can do it online, I will. Otherwise I'll do it by mail. Aside from that I either just won't do it or I'll pay someone to go do it for me. ;)

Why does it seem to be just as bad in every state?

Damned if I know, but it sure seems to be true.

And it never fails to amaze me that people want the government to run health care.

Porsche-O-Phile 01-21-2009 06:55 PM

If people spent some time around VA hospitals, they'd change their tune on that one. There's how EVERYONE'S health care will end up being if we get national health care.

Sorry for the PARF-y contribution but I just couldn't let that one go. Most people forget that we DO have a form of government-run healthcare right here in the good old USA - today - and to look to it as an example of things to come...

pfft, you should see what I have been thru latley trying to title a graymarket import that is exempt. Omg man this takes on a whole new meaning.

I got the car verfied by a CHP office that only handels Gray market cars. next sent in all of the paper work, when the vin is less then 17 digits it causes the DMV computers to go nuts and they need a managers password to file the paper work

waited 60 days got the paper work back saying needs to be filled out by a CHP officier I took it to officier who did the paper work and what he told me is they have been desperate to hire people in sacramento office and generally they dont have any reading skills.

man I can begin my rant with them on many levels but hey here is to goverment waist !

FAIL !

it's for verification of your ID
have you EVER read the bottom of one of those cards ?
No, why..
well it says..
can NOT TO BE USED FOR IDENTIFICATION..
oh...
I'm sure most of our DMV staff are on work release programs from various rehab. centers..
well that's what I tell myself as I enter the zoo....

The DMV in NJ is actually a pleasure to go to now. They changed their system around about 2 yrs ago. My last few visits where never more than 10 mins.

Before that was a PITA.

If you want to see a nightmare, go to any DMV in NYC. I think those people actually get off on making the customers life miserable.

Rick Lee 01-22-2009 06:40 AM

I have to say it isn't too bad in VA or AZ. I've found the folks there to be extra helpful, sometimes even whispering to me how to bend the silly rules and get away with it. When I moved here, I had three cars and a bike to register and could only drive one at a time, which meant a minimum of four trips to DMV. Unfortunately, I just discovered they made an error on one character in the VIN on my 993 title. Someday I'm gonna have to get that fixed, but no hurry.
