Any CA. license plate experts here?

I tried to describe this plate to MMarsh once and he said that he had not seen it. Finally got a picture. There are a couple of cars in my neighborhood with it, this Jag and a new Maseratti sedan. There are quite a few foreign consulates close by, (Hancock Park area of Los Angeles), but these are not regular consul plates. Anyone?

That's funny. She made a quick right at the next corner when she saw the spook photographing her plate.

If I disappear from this site, find the owner of that plate.

Sweeet! Thanks, Dave.

Those are the coolest looking plates I've ever seen with the two-colored characters. I've always loved license plates and never got over being bummed-out when nearly every state went reflectorised white.

Yup. The other one is on a brand new Maserati sedan, ocean blue color. And they live in the high-rent district, so to speak.

The Jag is a second car owned by a retiree (r1).

I don't see what the big deal is with the type of car. The spouse can have a nice paying private sector job.

I think they get a car allowance to do with as they please.

Kind of ironic considering the state's finances.

It is funny, California taxpayers who overpaid their taxes, and are OWED THE MONEY from the state will have the obligations owing to them suspended. But I bet those car allowances won't be!

Those diplomatic plates remind of the time when I worked at a local Cadillac dealer in Santa Monica. The Russian consulate brought their 1995 Fleetwood Brougham in because the doors were falling off the hinges. You'd be surprised at the armor plating the doors had. The windows were 2 inches thick (and they moved up and down!). The best part was they had a 2 1/2 gallon oil tank in the trunk that was pressurized. They could lay down a strip of oil from the spray bar running the length of the rear bumper.

I heard on the news the CA. state budget crisis is in some manner comparable to Louisiana. How it's comparable, I never found out, though I did hear, "tied for last in the country."

CA. is compared to Louisiana in something ranked "last in the country," and here we have a Jaguar and Maseratti with State Assembly plates on it.

What's the big deal about what kind of car they drive, someone asked. Ask an out of work LAUSD teacher.

The person that owns the Jag, is a retired Assembly person. Since they no longer work for the state, who cares about what car they drive.

The little "R" means retired.

Lawmakers simply pass laws to reward themselves.

I'm no fan of our state's finances, either. But it's not (necessarily) fair to chastize assembly members for driving swanky cars just because we're a bit jealous. For all we know, the guy was rich even before getting into government (or, like McCain, married well).

I can see from the Jag pic that the plate holder is for a very upscale (and academically excellent) all-girls high school in Hancock Park. They've probably got money from other (non-government car expense) sources.

Why do they still have State Assembly plates if they're retired? There must be a benefit in that, otherwise why have the plates?
