Apple is a great company!

When I was in Italy I plugged my mac book into one of those converters and it fried my screen not the Hard Drive. I was 2 months out of warranty, not only did Apple fix it for free, they also replace the cracked plastic that surrounds the key board.

Great Customer Service. If I was more "liquid" thats a company I would invest in!! and I am completely out of the stock market

Does the apple adapter not handle 240VAC? My IBM adapter works with 100-240VAC.

Not being very technical, I think my converter for Italy was old and antiquated

Yes it does. In fact I've never seen a computer that does not, laptop or desktop.

What "converter" Is it just an adapter so the plug matched the wall plate configuration or an actual electrical component that converts?

If the later you don't need them for computers.

I plugged my mac book in to re-charge and in a hotel in Milan, Italy and heard a zap then a strange smell and my screen died
