John Updike
...today died. He was 76.
He was one of the quintessential American writers, and definitely in a league with Faulkner, Hemingway and Fitzgerald. He'll be missed. :( http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/28/books/28updike.html?pagewanted=5&_r=1&hp |
Sad...I read all the 'Rabbit' books but a, "A Month of Sundays" was my favorite.
RIP. |
Great writer. RIP.
I think Rabbit Angstrom has to be one of the greatest figures in American literature. Ever. "Couples" was another of my favorites. |
WHAT?! How did this not filter down to me until now?! Thank god for Pelican.
Updike was a phenomenal essayist, and a supremely skilled writer of fiction. I honestly didn't like the drive of his stories; some writers you love, some you don't. But he was one of the great ones, and he was immensely talented. This is truly sad news. |
