Bring your guns to work and clean them at your desk on your lunch break.

That'll work!

The "mandatory" language regarding Saturday has been revised. Those of us that have nothing to add are now "optional".

I spoke to my boss this morning. He's looking for more work for me. He knows my skills pretty well so I'd be willing to try anything he threw my way.

option 5, they sack the slackers, make you work on saturday doing the work the slackers never did...

Have fun.

I just got an e-mail from someone asking me to sit down with him to review my database skills to match me to open opportunities.

I'd just walk into his office and tell him no ***** way, but I've been known to get in trouble for that sort of thing over the years so I can't really recommend it ;)

Yeah Me Too!
I'd just walk right into the bathroom, look into the mirror and say, "Hey Boss! No F***ing way am I working Saturdays!"
Ha, ha. Aint it great.

Update:

My boss and my project manager put out feelers to get me some more work. Considering my specialized skills I thought this might be difficult. Nope. The head of another team on my project wants me ASAP. I start on the new team on Monday in a different building.

I'll be on a team that writes SQL for other teams that are strapped for time. This is right up my ally as I was my team's resident DB2/SQL expert. One of the things I do well is I'm able to print out data models and figure out how to get the data needed efficiently (it's been a large part of my job for the past six years).

One bonus is that my wife and I will now be in the same building and can carpool again. My commute has also gone from 2.5 miles to .75 miles. If it weren't so damn cold, I'd probably walk.

I'm technically on loan and I'm expected to resume my work when Release 2 and 3 work starts up again. It looks like that won't happen until June at the earliest. I'll have desks in two buildings for awhile, though I'm expected to be at the new building most of my time.

I'm excited. I hope this will prove challenging.

Go in on Saturday and spend the time to learn Java and COBOL.

The problem isn't that I can't pick up those languages, the problem is that someone would have to stop what they're doing to teach me our implementations of those languages (standards, supporting tools, how to do a build, etc.)

I won't be missed on Saturday. None of my old team is going, none of my new team is going.
